After the launch of Chandrayaan-1(Moon Craft) in the year of 2008, India has almost completed their next mission towards moon. Chandrayaan-2 is India's second attempt for lunar exploration. It is developed by Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO).

It is planned to be launched towards moon with the help of Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III. Chandrayaan-2 mission includes lunar orbiter, launder, roves.

ISRO declared that the launch will be in 14th July 2019. But for some reasons the launch has been cancelled 56 minutes before the launch time. Although ISRO haven't ellaborated on the cause of this cancellation.

The problems assumed to be the cryogenic stage of the GSLV MK lll. After the cryogenic stage was filled with liquid hydrogen, just 20 mins later this issue was noticed by the scientists and the countdown came to a stop.

The duration of the mission will be of 1 year. A successful landing will make India the forth country to achieve a soft landing on the moon after USSR, USA and China. It is planned to be landed on the lunar south pole and it will be the 2nd soft landing project after China.

Reason for constant delaying:

After the Chandrayaan-1 mission Chandrayaan-2 mission was suppose to launch immediately but at that time it was an India russia collaboration. At that time Russia was about to initially provide us with the lander and rover, but there some fault found in the Russian rovers so India has to make its own lander and rover which took 7 years. The 1st attempt was supposed to be taken on 2017, then due to some unavailability we weren't able to launch Chandrayaan-2.

Objectives:

  • The first objective of Chandrayaan is to make a soft landing on the surface of the moon and perform a robotic rover on the surface.

  • Studying of lunar exosphere.

  • Studying of lunar topography.

  • Studying of mineralogy.

  • Signature of water ice.

  • Informing the location and abundance of lunar water.

ISRO has assured to be declaring the next date probably within July.
