Religion is not just a matter of faith but also a way of life. All of us believe in God Almighty, the creator of the universe, who guides our lives. God is one but he may be worshipped by various religions by different names. Christians call him Jesus, Sikhs call him Guru, Muslims call him Allah whereas the Hindus call him Ram. God is nothing but the unseen fact or faith that provides all of us strength, courage, hope and happiness which helps us to live a better life and fight all the problems that occur throughout.

India has been the birthplace of Jainism, Buddhism, Sikhism and Hinduism. Most of the saints who carried these religions forward were born in India. It is from here that they set out to preach these religions to the entire world. Thus culturally our forefathers were more advanced than us and lived a happy life.

However the same is not true today as religion has become one of the biggest reasons of discord and unrest. It can even turn a man into a beast due to the hatred it has incited among him. This evil facet of religion has been fanned and exploited by some religious and political leaders, for their own interests. It is really sad that we are living in a world where we believe in showing supremacy of one religion over other.

Nowadays people are getting much more influenced by the western culture. They are gradually forgetting the teachings of their religion. No longer do we see Muslim's offering namaz five times a day, Christians going to church every Sunday or Hindus going daily to temples for offering prayers. This is so because western culture has caused us to drift away from our beliefs. However at social and political level, we are ready to exploit our religion for gaining more power. It's this clash in our psyche that let's the unscrupulous leaders take advantage of us for filling their vote banks. All these fights are because we don't understand religion. If we would have understood it, we would have known that no religion peaches violence, disharmony and disrespect towards other religions. The place of religion in India is very sensitive and politically explosive. We must realise that religion is something spiritual and thus it shall only give birth to love, compassion, harmony and brotherhood which is sadly mission in the India of today.
