Igor is a music album produced by Tyler, the Creator which comes under the genre of hip hop. Igor is something more than a rap album and indeed is the best thing that I've listened to in 2019. Tyler the Creator has produced five studio albums of which all the five have been critically acclaimed. They are Bastard,Goblin,Cherry Bomb,Flower Boy and Igor. It's actually produced an awestruck in me as somehow he manages to give a continuity to the following album. Cherry Bomb and Flower Boy are the main reasons of what Tyler is right now. Igor although is a special album which holds a special meaning.

Throughout the albums produced by Tyler,it is seen that Tyler never does disclose his sexuality and tries to keep it ambiguous in nature. He has even mentioned quite a few times how he doesn't get hooked to relationships and all that type of things. But in Igor we get to see a speciality, Igor's fallen in love. Igor is Tyler himself referred to the character from Frankenstein movie who was a hunchback and is a character who serves as a lab assistant who helps in creating a monster. So what Tyler does here is that he used a metaphor of himself being Igor who falls in love, which on the contrary is the monster he created. Here both the name of the artist as well as the album gets a meaning as Tyler is indeed a creator while Igor is the metaphor I talked about earlier in the context.

Igor is an album comprised of 11 songs which should be enjoyed as a whole instead of using a single song experience as Igor tells stories with continuity which should be keenly listened or not listened. Igor starts off by Igor's theme in which he Tyler uses his production skills to transform a radio static into a great beat just like Kanye West had done earlier in Yeezus. Then comes Earfquake, yes "Earfquake" in which Tyler used a wordplay by using 'f' in place of 'th' which I've still not been able to understand why he did it. Earfquake is a songfeaturing Playboy Carti in it,in which we get to discover that Igor was about to go through a breakup and how he tries to convince his lover not to leave from his life and what she really meant to him and takes up the responsibility of their fight. But she leaves him anyway. The next song is 'I Think' which talks about how Igor feels that he fell in love again and how he wants to start all fresh again.

Then comes the next song 'Running Out of Time'which features Frank Ocean in it and talks about how Igor is running out of time in trying to make his beloved love him back the same way as he does. Here,I can also see a slight reference from Robert Frost's poem calle Last Ride Together in which the lover tries his level best to make his beloved love him back but how he fails to achieve it. I don't know if Tyler put forward the reference voluntarily or not but it seemed to be well fitting to the theme of romance. In the next song 'New Magic Wand' we discover that Igor finally gets in a proper relationship but now he rather complains for not getting the 100 of her time and that the 60-40 time wasn't working. In the beginning of the song we get to see a lot of unfitting rhymes here and there but by the end of it we get to see a lot of striking punchlines.

The next song in this album is called 'A Boy is A Gun*. In this song we can see how Igor and his lover fight and how they break up. In this Tyler uses an epic metaphor of the gun being his lover and how he would try to keep it safe and how in return it would also keep him safe, but the fact that it can be dangerous to him too frightens him. The song ends through their breakup. After this comes 'Puppet' which is quite similar to a poetic dramatic monologue, instead just said instead of just written. This song talks about how he wants to get back together with his lover and how he comes to notice that his beloved knew him more than himself. He feels that he is a puppet controlled by his beloved and indirectly asks his beloved not to leave him for strangled despite of the mistakes he has committed. But Igor fails in convincing his beloved and ends up being a marijuana addict.

Then Tyler comes up with another song called 'What's Good' which talks about how Igor tries to console himself that he's good but very consciously does he know that it's hard for him to get over with it. By the end of the song,he stops by asking what is harder-letting go or just being okay with it,which shows that Igor hasn't still got past his sorrow. The next song is my personal favourite from the album called 'Gone,Gone/Thank You' which as seen has been divided into 2 parts, the first being the phase of getting past the sorrow and even here he uses the metaphor of his breakup being a wound and how he is trying to console himself which is shown as a band-aid and how he slowly pulls off the band-aid just to see that he got scarred for life. The first part of the song itself is much deep that if you've listened the album in a single stretch without even a break, then this song wouldn't fail in bringing tears into your eyes, that's how wonderfully Tyler has done it. The second part of the song is 'Thank You' in which he thanks his ex for everything and how he becomes Igor once again and vows not to fall in love again due to the pain and misery.

In the next song 'IDon't Love You Anymore' he talks about how he got past his breakup and how he's bipolar about it as he finds himself happy now at one place but on the other side he finds out that he can't love anyone again. The last song is 'Are We Still Friends?' which is him asking his ex if they are friends or not because he doesn't want to end the episode in a bad mood. So here we see that this album goes on and on in repetitions because that's how love is,here if they become friends then again it'll revolve around the Igor falling in love and all those crazy things happening or we could see Igor remaining Igor, not loving anybody living his own life.

This album is an absolute 10 for me because it has somehow managed to have the essence of love which is mostly unseen in other hip hop albums and it seemed to be new to me and also interesting and wonderful. Also, it's notAi-Gore it's Eee-Gore.

Yeah true that!Flower Boy is obviously better than Igor but Igor is so far the best album in 2019 and most new albums are trash,so Igor was the only thing that just helped me grow the fact inside me that the industry is not dead yet.

When I read the last paragraph and saw you give it a 10, the following slightly modified line from Tyler came to my mind "Like a vasectomy, what have you done?" , but in all seriousness, it is a good album but I think you're overselling it. It is definitely not a 10, more like an 8.
