For thousands of years, human have devoted a significant amount of their time to treasure hunting. Some of them have even succeeded. In 1970, when a group of treasure hunters found a treasure site in El Dorado, the amount of Gold they recovered cause a huge drop of international gold price. Here are top five such treasures, known to exist and yet to be found:

The Forrest Fenn`s treasure

When the famous millionaire, adventurer, art collector Forrest Fenn was diagnosed with cancer, he decided to hide his most valuable possessions into the mountains. One of his friends claimed that the treasure contains Gold coins, jewels, gold bracelets, artifacts from South America and many more. Treasure hunters have gone to great lengths to find the Forrest Fenn`s treasure but never had a luck. Which means, the treasure is still out there, waiting to be recovered.

Nazi Lake Toplitz Austria

In the last months of World War II, Nazi officials dropped several wooden crates in Lake Toplitz of Austria. A few of the crates have been recovered. Divers found millions of dollars of fake currency in them. Many believe the Nazi officials dropped millions of dollars of gold, jewels and other precious belongings in it. The lake is very dangerous for divers as sunken logs decrease visibility under water.

The Golden owl

In 1993 famous French treasure-hunt designer hid a golden owl in French countryside. He left 11 clues to the whereabouts of The Golden Owl and placed a reward of one million Franc for those who could find it. Eventually he died in 2009. Before his death, he said that he checked that the owl was still there and also there were recent diggings near the owl’s burial site. Which means someone went very close to it.

Lake Guatavitá

For thousands of years, the Muisca people of modern day Columbia throw gold (powdered, ornaments or idols) in Lake Guatavitá in honor of their God. Many believe this lake is the El Dorado as gold has been consistently recovered from the lake. In 1845, the Spanish attempted to drain the lake to find all the gold at its bottom, but barely affected the water level. Even then they recovered massive amounts of gold.

Leon Trabuco`s gold

The Mexican millionaire Leon Trabuco thought he could expand his net worth by taking advantages of the United States` great depression. So, he purchased as much gold as he could to resell in US market. In few months time, he collected almost 16 tons of gold. He never revealed location and no map were made for the airplane carrying it. Unfortunately, 1934 US gold act made private ownership of gold illegal in the United States. Over the years he died and took the location of his gold hidden in vast sands on New Mexican deserts still waiting to be claimed.
