Antarctica is the southernmost continent of our planet. It is the 5th largest continent after Asia, North America, Africa and South America. It is one of the coldest, freezing places of the Earth. It can freeze your body within seconds. Antarctica is covered with white snow on its surface.

No human is native of Antarctica but there are many research stations of different countries of the world and thousands of people travel to Antarctica for their research. India also has 3 research stations in Antarctica in which only two are active. Species which are capable to survive in the extreme environment are found on Antarctica but they are also present in very few amounts. These include Seals, Penguin, Orcas, Leopard Seals, Krill etc.

Millions of years ago, Antarctica was once considered as one of the hottest places of the Earth
At that time, Antarctica was not the southern place of the Earth but due to the shifts of plates of Earth’s crust, it shifts to the South. The lowest temperature measured by humans in Antarctica in 89.2 degree Celsius. This is also the lowest temperature recorded on Earth.

Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen was the first person to land foot on Antarctica. There are also places in Antarctica where there is no snowfall or rain in the last 20000 years but still the heavy snow-mountains of thousands of years old are present on there.

It is one of the driest places of the World hence it is called Drier Valley.
America has one nuclear research station in Antarctica named The McMurdo Station which was established back in 1962.

In this snowy desert, there is approximately 1.5 km thick snow is covering the land area. Ninety percentage of Earth’s water is present in Antarctica in the form of ice and snow.

There are some places in Antarctica where the wind travels at a speed of 350 km per hour.
Only Antarctica and New-Zealand are the only two places on the entire planet where no species of snakes are found. Antarctica is the only continent with no time zone.

Antarctica is also considered as a place with a lot of secrets. Many scientists believed that many years ago, a developed species are living in Antarctica. Many scientists also started to research on Antarctica in hoping to find new fragments of life. Many scientists also believed that many years ago, our ancestors found Antarctica and started to live there unknown to our history.
