Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder”; must have heard this often, right? But do we actually put our minds in control with this line? I assume it as a baffled yes. Why? We all know what we run after and pursue.

It happens a lot in day-to-day life. “Gracious, she’s beautiful!”, “He’s excessively handsome”, “I love her/his look, the smile, the perfect flawless jawline” blah blah blah… We see a lot of beauty ads, with the perfectness revealed in the commercials and curse ourselves for the imperfections that we hold, at least I do sometimes. We are all same so everyone holds more or less the similar notion and at some point had given easy entry to this idea in the sensitive mind.

Not to point at any particular ethnicity, yet I somehow desire to share a small incidence that happened while my stay in Europe. I met many individuals and came across a Singapore based student at my university. She was a real beauty; I being a girl admired her beauty in an awestruck way. She was undeniably prettier than “Pretty Woman featuring Julia Roberts’ or Blake Lively for instance. Honestly, I wanted to cry at her being a ‘beauty monarch’, well-formed body! But soon, I was in a way taken aback tuning in to her thoughts about the beauty and the perception that her family and society had. It was somewhat reflection of the mere unimportant act of physical beauty and the ‘mechanism behind it’.She, being only 22, had undergone nose surgery to appeal lovely with the facial bone edifice of the nose. For what reason did you undergo cuts? I asked her out of curiosity! Her answer shattered my reverence for a couple of moments. “My family is too much particular about the looks of girls and the society even maintains the same thoughts; we have to be beautiful or are by ‘means’ transformed into one else we face criticism”.

I was about to enter into mental trauma and agony! My mind was about to explode and take a plunge into the shallowness that society, people and the places have today. It’s demoralizing honestly- of course, it doesn’t happen everywhere or not seen often maybe around you but I am pretty much certain that everyone had at least once made up the mind to appear more beautiful or alluring to appeal to the rest. We yell out that magnificence lies in the heart and not on the face or the sharp body features! But this world doesn’t let many flee from the unethical approach taken by mankind. It leaves a scar on the hearts of numerous who feel unwanted and undesirable at some point in time. Sometimes the grievances gets so stressful that individuals get into the state of body shaming and begin to be characterized as ‘ugly’! It’s now an early time to notice the small beauty in acts rather than the sharp physical features! We ought to live with hopes of goodness and benevolence! Beauty will definitely blur one day but the kindness never leaves its substance!
