Have you heard about PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals)? Peta is an organization who works towards the welfare of animals. It has been quite a few years since they have been operating. They have rescued a number of animals and have helped in shutting down many trades which exploit animals. There are much organisation are working towards the same cause and now awareness is being rightly created.
I saw a video released by PETA ( U.S) where I came to know the horrific side of big pet stores. They went undercover and captured footages which showed how pets were brought to their godowns. There was a variety of animals they had brought in. From rabbits, hamster, guinea pigs to reptiles like lizards, bearded dragons ( which was bleeding), turtles, tortoises and many others as well. They were kept in horrendous conditions. It seemed like some of the animals were already dead before they arrived at the godowns or maybe after. They pretty much looked at a bait that was being sacrificed for human entertainment and so that big pet stores could make money off of them.
The fishes in like petsmart and Petco in the US die in the tanks itself. This was shown in a video and none of the staff was bothered to remove the poor creature's body ( there were more than 10 dead fishes ). A customer saw this and recorded the whole scenario and took all the dead fishes out. The staff was eyeing on them as they were taking a video of this incident. All these things are kept hidden from the people/customers because they know once the people are aware of this cruelty they would not visit them again
Example:
The horrors of the puppy mills :
It is a simple concept. Puppy mills consist of breeders who breed puppies throughout the year. They are kept in an unclean and disgusting environment. The female dog here suffers a lot. she is forced to breed throughout and eventually, the breeder would take the 45 days old puppies away and sell them his customers. They are taken away while they need their mothers. The female dogs are then abandoned by the breeders as they get old. These breeders breed them poorly and sell it for a cheaper price.
The customers readily take them as it is inexpensive. And these die a few days later after being bought due to the unhealthy conditions they were raised in . But again a good breeder takes care of the mother and the puppies and we can clearly point out the difference and know which one is more healthy. A good quality Labrador puppy ( which are home bred by good breeders ) actually comes for 30,000 rs in India and a bad breeder sells his puppies at 7,000 rs. This was just a comparison between a good and a bad breeder. The most important thing here is people shouldn't pay for pets anymore. The more they pay the more people will continue breeding pets in bad conditions. Adopting a pet is the only way this cruel business can stop.
Always adopt, don't shop!
And here the trader's aren't the only one to be blamed but it is also the bad pet owners who keep them in terrible conditions. Your pet is your responsibility if a dog is chained outside the house and never taken outside then that's animals abuse/ cruelty right there. If you don't feed your pets, clean them, neglect them and abuse them then you are wrong on your part.
Animals are voiceless beings and we for the sake of humanity should rightly be their voices and put light on how poorly people are treating them.
And this is the reason why you should respect and be responsible for your beloved companions.
