Varanasi is the city formed on the confluence of two rivers Varuna and Assi which gives this city its name - Varanasi. Although the official name has been turned into Varanasi, you’ll still find yourself lost in Banaras, if you were to wander in between the streets of Varanasi.

The real Varanasi lies not in the hotels in the middle of the city, but in the small cafés and restaurants in the winding streets of Banaras. Here, you’ll find stories; stories that’ll come from the most common looking fanatics whom you were avoiding all the time. These stories will compel you to think about the appearance and our judgement based on them. They’ll leave you bewildered.

The best thing that Banaras provides to us is the Ghats on the banks of river Ganga. The serenity and peace that dawn upon the visitor is an experience worth experiencing once. The chaos of the Ghat won’t disturb you; instead the same chaos will make you feel the peace of that place.

After spending hours on Ghats and taking in all the soul filling knowledge, the grumbling of the stomach will be the only thing that’ll compel you to get on feet and find something to eat. Then you’ll be introduced to the marvellous food that Banaras has in store for you.

The street food here will leave you full in stomach and hungry for taste. You’ll want more and more of it. Be it the lassi of The Blue Lassi shop or the Dahi Golgappe of Kaashi Chat Bhandar, you’ll always find yourself craving for more. The streets leading to the old Kaashi Vishwanath temple is full of several other delicacies like Gulappe, chole samose, Puri sabzi and what not.

The best time to visit the temples is in the morning. You can start from Vishwanath Temple and then move to other temples like Tulsi Manas temple, Durga Kund and many other temples throughout the day. This city doesn’t sleep and you will not as well when you’ll be submerged in its colours. If you want some fresh air then head towards the new Vishwanath temple inside BHU campus. You can spend hours sitting there under open sky and not get bored.

There is so much to look ahead in Banaras and so much to try to eat. The zigzag streets are where you’ll find gems that even Google maps don’t know. Although that’s where you should be careful from pickpockets. The alluring city is not only inviting but also dangerous if you forget to get careful.

So stay safe and enjoy the tranquillity that Banaras provides through its Ghats and temples.
