It is a city located in the state of desert, Rajasthan. It is the largest district of Rajasthan. It is situated close to the Pakistan Border. This city is crowned be the very famous fort, the Jaisalmer Fort. This fort contains a royal palace and several Jain temples. This is basically a town, that lies in the heart of the Thar Desert. Jaisalmer is adorned with lakes, Jain temples, havelis etc. It is very attractive to climb on the camel saddle and make a way through this desert. Jaisalmer is a sublime amalgam of exotic Indian desert culture and heritage.

1)Jaisalmer fort

It was built in 1156 by the Bhati Rajput ruler, Jaisal. It is also known with the name as “Golden Fort” of Rajasthan. It ranks amongst the largest forts in the world. Its massive sandstone walls are a tawny lion coloured during the day time, turns to honey-gold during the sun sets. About a quarter of the city’s population reside inside the fort. The golden and yellow sandstone gives a magical look to this very attractive fort. The fort stands tall and proud proving the greatness and magic of the Rajasthani Architecture. The alleys which surrounds the fort are inhabited by the people of Jaisalmer residing there for generations.

2 ) Desert safari

It is the place visited by most of the tourists due to its large stretched desert. Most of the visitors prefer going for a desert safari. To take a feel of the deserts, one should definitely take the ride of the desert safari. Sam Sand Dunes is the official destination to set off for the desert safari. The safari is carried out on the back of the animal, ’the King of the Desert’, the Camel. It will take you along the crust and trough and would give you the best feel travelling in the deserts. Jeep Safari are also available. But there is an amazing feeling with the Camel ride.

Jaisalmer with the soft golden sand appears the most beautiful place to visit. This town has been enriched by its Jain community. It has adorned the city with beautiful temples. There are a total of seven Jain temples located in Jaisalmer. Jaisalmer also contains the oldest libraries of India which is rich due to the rarest of the manuscripts of the Jain tradition. There are many Jain pilgrimage spot around Jaisalmer. The most awaited, famous, colourful event of Rajasthan is the Desert Festival of Jaisalmer.
