Agra is the city on the bank of the river Yamuna, in Uttar Pradesh. Agra being the major tourist destination, is the most popular city in Uttar Pradesh, and the 24th most populous in India.

It is the home of one of the 7 wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal. The magical allure of Taj Mahal draws tourists to Agra. But the Taj Mahal is not only the stand-alone attraction point in Agra, but Agra is a sneak peek into the architectural history with many other structures like Agra fort, Fatehpur Sikri, Agra has three UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The history, architecture and romance, all together create a magic behind Taj Mahal.

Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is one of the most famous buildings in the world, one of the seven wonders of the world. Agra is commonly identified as the “CITY OF TAJ”. In 1653, Taj Mahal was built by the Mughal king Shah Jahan for his beloved life. Taj Mahal is the symbol of love. It is constructed on the marble platform, one of the most beautiful monuments in India, being one of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, it makes India proud of this. It has a large number of tourist attraction, of which foreigners are much in number. It was built by the Persian Architect. The interior was decorated with the fine inlay work, incorporated semi-precious stones.

Agra Fort

Agra Fort, also called as the Red Fort, in 1565, was commissioned by the conquering Mughal emperor Akbar. It is the another of Agra’s World Heritage Sites. There is a stone table at the gate of the Fort indicated that it has been built before 1000, but later renovated By Akbar, the Great. This fort was converted into a palace during the times of the Mughal King, Shah Jahan. The fort is crescent-shaped, flattened at the east with a long, nearly straight wall facing the river Yamuna. It is ringed by double ramparts of red sandstone. This fort is the best example of the Mughal Architecture.

Fatehpur Sikri

Fatehpur Sikri was built by the Mughal Emperor, Akbar, he further moved his capital there. This site consists of number of buildings that have significant historical importance. This is the other World Heritage Sites. This is also the point Agra is proud of, having a large number of tourist attraction. The dynastic architecture of Fatehpur Sikri was modelled on Timurid forms and styles.
