Varanasi is a beautiful, spiritual and holy city of India one should definitely visit. It is situated on the banks of River Ganga and is also known as Kashi or Banaras. The beautiful ghats, aartis, prayers and boat riding on the banks of the calm river is very enticing.

By air- The Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport in Varanasi is well connected to the major cities like Delhi, Jaipur and Mumbai.

By road- Varanasi is well connected by roads also and several local buses travel from Varanasi to major cities daily.

By rail- The varanasi junction and Kashi Railway Station are the 2 main railway heads in the city.

The bestest time to pay a visit to Varanasi is between the month of October and February as the winters are quite pleasant and you can easily explore the place without getting tired. The average temperature in varanasi in winters is 5 degree celsius.

Things to do in Varanasi

The main temple of Varanasi is the Kashi Vishwanath temple also known as Shri Vishwanath temple. This temple is situated in the world famous Banaras Hindu University and it is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple was built in 1965.

The another major attraction of this place is the Manikarnika Ghat. This ghat is one of the oldest ghats of the city and is referred to as the holiest among other ghats. The ghat is named after a very famous freedom fighter of India, Manikarnika, later known as Rani Laxmi Bai as she was born from the ganga river from this ghat.

The heritage sites are also worth visiting. One of the major and famous historical sites of Varanasi is The Dhamek Stupa. It was built in 500 AD. The Dhamek Stupa is located at Sarnath which is 13 kilometre away from the varanasi city.

The another famous temple of Kashi is the Bharat Mata Mandir located at the Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith Campus. Instead of having the statues of any god or goddess, there is the huge map of undivided India carved on the marbel and as the name suggests, this temple is dedicated to the Mother India (Bharat Mata) and is considered to be ony one of its kinds in the entire world.

There are many more museums in Kashi also. One of the famous museums of Banaras is the Bharat Kala Bhavan Museum. This museum is situated at the Banaras Hindu University. This museum was founded in 1920 by Madan Mohan Malviya and it has been an instrumental on the distribution of knowledge regarding Indian culture and art.
