You have been invited over by your Muslim friend on the occasion of Eid. [Eid-al-Fitr is a religious holiday celebrated by Muslims all over the world that marks the end of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting]. You are excited to be a part of this celebration (and of course enjoy the delectable array of food!) for the first time but then you are not well acquainted with the Eid customs and have no idea what to bring along as a gift. Well your worries are over! Here are a few types of gifts you can give to the family members of the house you are visiting on Eid:

1. Gifts for children

Mainly children receive gifts during Eid.
Toys, Islamic books containing stories of prophets and stories of Islamic teachings, Eidi (money) are some of the common gifts given to children.

2. Clothes

Clothes are popular gift items for almost every festival. Traditional kurtas and sherwanis, shirts, t-shirts can be gifted to the male members while women may get lehengas, salwars, anarkalis, sarees etc. It is a good idea to gift white clothes as the colour symbolises peace and purity.

3. Accessories

Presenting accessories as Eid gifts is very common. Women receive perfumes, handbags, jewellery etc. while men on the other hand receive watches, ties, belts, bracelets etc.

4. Food

Chocolates, dried fruits, sweets can be brought as gifts. You can also present gift baskets loaded with an assortment of almonds, pistachios, dates, fruit cakes etc. which are available in stores throughout and even on a few online sites.

5. Quran

Presenting a brand-new Quran as an Eid gift can be really thoughtful and worthy. Although it is mostly gifted to elder members of the family, even children can receive new Qurans as a reward for fasting.

However, keep in mind that Eid is all about closeness and bonding and the celebration centres around food, family and friends. Hence, leaving all the fancy presents aside, the most valuable and memorable gift you can present to your hosts is the time you spend with them and the lovely memories you make on this auspicious occasion.
