Statue of unity, the world's tallest statue of about 182 m is built as a tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on a river island facing the Sardar Sarovar Dam on river Narmada in Kevadiya colony, 100 kilometers (62 mi) southeast of the city of Vadodara. The statue was inaugurated on 31st October by our prime minister Shri Narendra Modi. The total cost of the statue is estimated to be 2989 crores (USD $420 million). Since the inauguration, there have been mixed opinions about the statue. Some thought of it as a great initiative while some thought it wasn't worth a go.
I will present some of the facts about the statue of unity that will help you shape your decision.
1)The spring Buddha temple, the world's second largest statue located in China is 153 m high and the total construction cost of Spring Buddha Temple is estimated to be $55 million. The difference in height of both the statues is 29 meters while the cost difference is $365 million, which means, in this case, one-meter costs about $12.589 million. Considering all the situations this difference is a bit difficult to digest.
2)Well, now a lot of people must be thinking, AH! The cost could be easily recovered by tourist attractions. Taj Mahal the most famous monument of India generates an annual revenue of 25 crores. Considering the statue of unity becoming as famous as Taj Mahal or a bit more(which is next to impossible), and considering that it generates a revenue of 30 crores per year it would still take almost 100 years the get what is invested.
3)Many tribals were angry because their homes were uprooted and around 75000 tribesmen protested against the statue of liberty.
4)The statue of unity is definitely going to help the local business and the infrastructure around it but could it have been done directly without the construction of the statue of unity is yet another question.
5)Well, yes no one can deny the fact that the statue is amazing and reminds us of the iron man of India Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and the sacrifices he has made for the country.
Well, there are pros and cons to everything, whether the construction of the statue of liberty was worth it or waste of money, was it a political agenda or something else depends on one's thinking. What do you think, was it worth it or not?
