India is a culture rich country which comprises of several pious customs and vibrant rituals. People from various country visit India just to adore its vibrant essence and to have a taste of such a alluring province. With culture and people there comes a huge pile of unnecessary thoughts and feelings which gives birth to orthodox devout practices and India contains many such myths and taboos which makes it important to educate and create awareness regardless of what people think their culture says.

Some of major social taboos that still exist in India

Divorce: Marriage is considered as the most pure and religious ritual in our country and adding a full stop to this is considered as a sin by our society. People usually avoid taking divorce as their family and society won't accept it. Indian couples tolerate violence and their toxic relationship just because of the fear of society. This is the reason behind low divorce rates in our country.

Homosexuality: People say that god has made just two genders which is a Male and Female and getting attracted by the people of their own gender is considered a misdeed. It is considered as a psychological disorder in India which is not at all true even the Government of India has made homosexuality legal by introducing article 377. It's high time we as the citizens of this country accept it too.

Menstruation: Periods or menstruation is vaginal bleeding which occurs as a part of woman's monthly cycle. In some societies menstruation is considered as unclean and embarrassing act. During periods women are forbidded to enter any temple or to touch any godly object. People are embarrassed of even mentioning it in public or in private area in front of men.

Inter-caste marriages: The caste system in India, the marriage outside the same religion is not encouraged. In maximum number of societies inter-caste marriages are not acceptable by parents and families. The Supreme Court of India has also declared that inter-caste marriages are absolutely legal and in the national interest.

Dressing up: The traditional Indian attire is no doubt the most beautiful and vivid way to dress up but people mostly youngsters are westernized nowadays. They prefer wearing more comfortable and short clothes which is completely acceptable and normal. People have freedom of choice and there shouldn't be any judgement especially not in case of dressing up and choice of clothes.

Thus, Taboos is the reason why India is still a backward country and within the presence of such benighted thoughts and believes there is no scope of break through and development.
