Most of us aware of the ill effect of alcohol on the human body. On slightly intoxicated with the alcohol may cause blurred or loss of vision on long term effect. In this piece of article we are going know the real physiological consequences.

Have you ever noticed that the one who drinks too much eyes becomes red the next morning? The reason being is -- The alcohol present in the body act on the small blood vessels in the eye, especially in the sclera.On acting, the alcohol dilates the blood vessels.Dilation of blood vessel cause increased blood flow and resulting in eyes sported bright red spider veins. So you feel hot eyes.

Apart from this, alcohol consumption cause depletion of nutrition needed for the eye health.Consequently lead to the condition known as optic neuritis. This can impair the eye sight and at time lead to blindness.

But the some people have high metabolic rate of alcohol detoxification process, they will not suffer red eyes.However, other people cannot resolve the alcohol finely in short time due to their lack of some enzymes.These people will suffer red eyes easily.

  • Slow pupil reaction -- the reaction time of your pupils decrease, that is they are unable to constrict or dilate when reacting to ambient light levels.Also impairs the ability to differentiate colours.

  • Cataract formation – Individuals with high consumption areliable to suffer from cataract

  • Vitamin deficiency –weakening of liver by alcohol decrease the level of vitamins in the body.Therefore, it cause weakening of eye muscles, corneal perforation, night blindness

  • Alcohol amblyopia – phenomenon where eyes lose color, becomes almost blind and irreversibly lost.

  • Excessive consumption of alcohol leads to age- related macular regeneration

  • In rare cases alcohol causes allergic reaction.

  • Causes glaucoma
