गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुः

गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः ।

गुरुःसाक्षात् परब्रह्म

तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नम: ॥

Realize that the Guru is Brahma Himself. He is Vishnu and He is also Shiva (Maheshwar). Guru is Parabrahma (Supreme God or the Absolute Truth). With this knowledge, I (salute) offer my obeisance to the Guru.

In Sanskrit, 'Gu' means 'darkness' and 'Ru' means 'Remover'. This is the major reason why Gurus are worshipped because they are the removers of darkness from our lives. Infact that's why such people are named GuRus.

However, what I believe is Gu and Ru are not enough to define a Mentor. Because a mentor not only removes you from the darkness, he shows you the right path of the brightness and also teaches you the way in which you can always be into the bright side of the life. Moreover, he teaches you to stand against the unfavorable situations if occurred. And you know the best part of the Guru: When they see their students or disciples flourishing happily in their respective lives, they call it their Guru Dakshina.

Guru Purnima is a tradition rather a celebration that is made for the Gurus. It is celebrated on the day of Poornima in month of June. It is celebrated by India, Nepal and Bhutan. The yogic tradition says that it was the day when Shiva became the first Guru. The Buddhists say that it was the day when Lord Buddha gave his first sermon (a speech on a religious or moral subject). Varied rituals and poojas are done on this day by the students, the disciples for their Gurus, their teachers.

Hence, even I would like to take this opportunity to offer my gratitude to all the Gurus, mentors, teachers and every single person who has taught me or has shown me the right path throughout my life.
