Cyclone Fani

It was the worst cyclonic storm to hit Odisha since Phailin in 2013. It was as poisonous as the snake from whose hood it's name was derived. When the severe cyclonic storm Fani or Foni hit the coast of Odisha little did the people know it would be the cause of wreckage of their livelihood.

Destruction caused by Cyclone Fani

The storm that originated from Sumatra caught up a speed of as high as 215 km/minute when it began approaching Odisha.

Within seconds everything was wiped out. The same beaches where many people earned their bread by selling coconut water, Jhal Muri and fishes saw their stalls crumbling down under this giant.

Cries pierced the ears as buildings, roads and electricity lines started collapsing. Mothers started running with their wailing babies for shelter homes as the huts that once breathed of life had shattered. Cyclone Fani had whipped it's venom and the state that houses the famous Sun Temple was now on the verge of a complete ruin.

Predicted quite early by the Indian Meteorological Department, cyclone Fani was thought to not cause much smash as it's speed was estimated to lessen when reaching The Bay of Bengal.

Precautions were taken, military relief was provided but Fani overpowered it all. In the blink of an eye Odisha got transformed into a graveyard where the dead bodies started piling up with every subsequent search operation. There was water everywhere but not a pinch for drinking. There was water everywhere-water which people didn't want, water they knew would kill them, water against whom they were helpless.

Nature does a lot for us but when it does showcase it's anger, when it does open it's third eye, it has the power to convert a state full of joy like Odisha into an open coffin, where dreams are destroyed and humans breath without oxygen.
