Manu Bhaker, the 17-years-old current teen sporting sensation of India has secured her olympic berth with an outstanding shot of 201.0 in the final. She is the perfect example of hardwork, determination and willingness which led her to secure the quota in Olympics, 2020.
Manu Bhaker with a fourth-place finish in the women’s 10m air pistol event of the ISSF World Cup on 29th May, Wednesday, secured her place and India's seventh Olympic quota. In her earlier event she had to face a pistol malfunctioning but putting that behind she managed to secure her place in the Olympics.
The young Bhaker caught the eyes of people with her stunning performances in Shooting ranges across the World, she has also won multiple Gold in her maiden Senior World Cup, Commonwealth Games, and the top prize at the Youth Olympics last October which gave her immense popularity and appreciation in India.
She is someone who started practicing Shooting just two years ago, the girl has surprised everyone into admiration after she won two Gold medals at her maiden outing at ISSF World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico.
She scored 201.0 in the final get India a quota for the 2020 Tokyo Games, the young sporting sensation missed out on a medal by the narrowest margin, along side current Olympic and world champion Anna Korakaki of Greece by a mere 0.1 point at that stage.
Manu has won multiple medals at the top global events. At ISSF, Manu finished third for the qualification with total of 582 points, where she shot powerful 98 in her last to rounds of the event.
On May 27, Monday, Bhaker suffered sorrow as she disregarded on the rostrum once a weapon malfunction saw her slip to the fifth spot once leading the sphere. After that on May 29th, Wednesday, Manu qualified for the ultimate once shooting 582, her best score till date at international level. She shot well within the final too, however ocassionally 9s broken her possibilities of taking the lead.
Since Indian Men's Air Pistol team has already secured a quota , now Manu’s Olympic quota will help the country to participate with the mixed team at the Tokyo Games, 2020. This young talent, will also qualify to shoot in 25m pistol event because from India only Rani Sarnabot has won a quota in the Olympic and in one event only two shooters can represent the country.
The indian shooters had experienced a mental blackout in the 2016 olympics however the development of any semblance of Manu during the ISSF World Cup has given expectations that the game can possibly convey champions in the year ahead.
