Mahendra singh Dhoni (Former Indian Captain) said that ‘The biggest crime I can commit is not murder it is match fixing’.But the sad part is the sport world has become an integral part of match fixing and betting.It is not only cricket but many more games even in the international level. Match fixing generally refers to fixing the final result of the game. Another form of match fixing, known as spot fixing, involves fixing small events within a match which can be gambled upon, but which are unlikely to prove decisive in determining the final result of the game.People don’t know a lot about motorsport gambling,but one of the earliest known betting incidents includethe 1933Tripoli Grand Prix, in which the winning number of the lottery was determined by the number of the race-winning car. One ticket holder held the number belonging toAchille Varzi contacted him and agreed to share the winning should he win. Varzi contacted other drivers who agreed to share the money if they deliberately lost. Despite a poor start, Varzi won the race after his opponents deliberately underperformed throughout the race.

A more recent example of possible tanking occurred in theice hockey competition at the 2006Winter olympics. Sweden ,in a better position in the group stage deliberately lost a game so that they did not have to face Czech Republicin quarters.The1998 Tiger Cup,an international footballtournament contested by countries inSoutheast Asiasaw an example of two teams trying to lose a match.This was a similar incident to the previous one,where both the teams in fear of playing a tougher team were trying to get defeated.

There are similar incidents in wrestling too.But cricket has recently seen a lot of match fixing incidents, such as the 1999 India Southafrica betting scandal involving the Indian captain M. Azharuddin and H.Cronje.The Indian captain allegedly took money to lose 3 matches. Such incidents led to his demise of cricketing career,and he was thrown out of the Indian team.

Match fixing is a very awful crime and should not be practised at all.When fans are viewing a match whether it be any sport,people watch it with a lot of enthusiasm ,but when it turns out to be fixed everyone loses their hope towards the sport.These aren’t just words but when Indian fans heard about the 99 fixing scandal ,they avoidedviewing cricket matches for some time.Sports are all about hardwork and fun,and we are all thankful to our heroes of every sport who have entertained us all the time but and we all so hope they don’t get involved in any of the the things we discussed before.
