Which game comes in your mind first when anyone speaks about sportsin our country?
It is cricket. A game everyone of us has played in our childhood.But let’s talk about all kinds of sports Indians play or are known for.The most underrated game playedin our country is football. Ifyou play the game well ,you are bornin the wrong country. But nowadays even India has produced a lot more talented players and they are in the process to build a fresh team with ample number of good players to represent India in the big stage.India was the host of the2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, the 17th U-17 FIFA World Cup. This was the first international football competition at world level hosted by India.This shows that how Indian football is growing.The other game that we always have been good at is field hockey.That is the game which Until the mid-1970s,India men’s team dominated international field hockey, winning 7 Olympic gold medals and won the1975 Hockey World Cup.Since then, barring a gold medal at the1980 Olympics, India has hosted two Men's Hockey World Cups–one in1982,Mumbai, and another in2010in Delhi, where they finished fifth and eighth respectively.Hockey too is loved in India,but it is not as easily playable as cricket or football so we don’t see it often other than in the complexes and stadiums. Badminton is a fast growing sport in India. Badminton's popularity has grown in recent years. Indian shuttlersSaina Nehwal,K. SrikanthandP.V. Sindhuare ranked amongst top-10 in current BWF ranking.Prakash Padukonewas the first player from India to achieve world no.1 spot in the game and after himK. Srikanthmade it to the top spot as male player for second time in April 2018.Sania Nehwal was the only woman to reach the no.1 spot in April 2015.Badminton is also something we play quite well.When the Olympics take place Indians do count on a medal in this sport.Coming to some growing games in India ,there are Golf and Basketball. The most successful Indian golfers areJ.M.Singhand Anirban Lahiri. Singh won three titles on theEuropean Tour andon Japan golf tour, and six on theAsian Tour.. His highest world ranking was 28th in March 2009.Chess is also played in India.V.Anand is one of the best in business.Kabaddi is India’s very own game.India even hosts a league called Pro Kabaddi league.These are almost all the famous gamees played in India and the ones we look forward to excel in the future.
