Ask your father about his childhood. Ask him what kind of games did he played when he was of your age. Ask him what kind of other activities he did during his vacations. After that ask yourself that what you do/did in your childhood. Most probably, both of you won't understand each other's answers. That's because of,

1) Generation gap
2) The Evolution of childhood

You and your father or let's say you and your Grandfather usually have a difference of 30-60 years. Just think how many decades passed. You are the third generation of your family. Your childhood differs very much from your Father's or Grandfathers.

Earlier children used to play cricket, football, etc outside their houses. Nowadays, they still play these games, but in their mobile phones or computers.

Childhood then

The time period when your father and grandfather were young. They used to play so many games which I think, we've never head of. And the kind of creative things they did. They were always on the ground playing such games which would enhance them mentally and physically.

  • Gully Danda

The most famous name we would have heard from our Fathers is this game of Gully Danda. This game is said to be the old form of cricket. In this game, a sharp ended diamond shaped wooden piece called, 'Gully', was tossed into the air by hitting its one end by stick called, 'Danda'.

  • Dabba ice-pice

It's the Indian name for Hide and Seek. The only difference is that A box called 'Dabba' is to be thrown at a distance. Then the denner has to walk and get this box without looking back and place it in the middle of the field. Meanwhile, all the other participants have to hide and after the dinner places the box, one of the participants can quickly run and kick the box to save other participants.

  • Building mud palaces

Yes, mud palaces. they loved doing so. It gave them amaze and happiness. They literally carried the tool to do so.

  • Bath in open fields

Our fathers used to bath outside sometimes for fun. They would just turn on the pipe in the field and bath with their friends.

To sum up, childhood earlier was no so though. There were no iPads or phone to glue up to. We can say childhood than was healthy and witty. It was an exposure to all kinds of situations and conditions, whether it be a germ or being social.

Childhood now

Childhood now is very primitive and precise. We don't get to see much of children playing outside. They are glued up to mobile phones and all the other gadgets. Childhood is not helping in enhancing a child's physical health at least. Today children are the Guru of technology, they know each and everything about gadgets. They are smarter than their age.

  • Video games

Today, the games that our fathers played, are today played on videos games.

  • creating Social Media accounts

Today each and everyone wants to be on social media, especially children. They just create their accounts and stay glued up to phones.

  • Taking photos/videos of some wonderful events

It's good to have memories of the trips or any such events that are glorious. But to have memories in mind more than in the phone is necessary. Nowadays, children are seen capturing moments rather than living the moments.

To conclude, times change. It's true that every period of time has its own pros and cons. We can't have it all, but some. Today's generation needs to be educated about the importance of going out playing. Parents need to indulge them into physical activities rather than just giving them phones in their hands whenever they start crying.

Childhood is a beautiful phase of life, one should fully enjoy it and not waste it.
