The examination is something that judges and shows the capacity of students for that particular subject or a particular field, whether that student can handle further syllabus or not, whether they are suitable for that particular subject or not. But examination is not just about all these things, it also shows the capacity of students in terms of development. To know whether students are getting developed or not, teachers or education institute takes the examination in the two forms: closed book examination and open book examination.
Closed book examination is a normal examination that we normally give and that has been going on from centuries in which examinations are based upon what they have studied or learned in a year. They get some question papers that they need to answer without the help of any book or class notes. On the other hand, the closed book examination is something which is a concept of the modern education system. In this examination, students can take the help of books and need to find the answers to the given questions. But it is always to keep in mind that these books don't have exact answers and if they do then students just can't copy all of them because these kinds of the examination are about seeing that how much students actually come across their own ideas or methods.
Debates about giving favor to closed book examination or open-book examination has been going on since the concept of the open book came in the education system. Some say that the close book is the best way to see student's caliber and some say that open book is the best way to see the development of students. Close book help student to get independent from any books or notes in an examination whereas closed book makes student dependent. On the other hand, closed book examination is something that makes student limited whereas in open book examination student can enhance their ideas. Close book is about preparing for examination from the beginning of every session and taking it seriously. It is also about to follow the methods of teachers or the formula giver. But in open book student don't need to follow that methodology of teachers or formula giver. They themselves have to make their own method, process, and formula on the spot. In this examination, the main purpose of teachers is not just to see the student's knowledge but also student's self-dependency, not book-dependency.
Overall we can say that both of the examinations are good in their own way. The development of the student is necessary with hard preparation from the very beginning of the session. The education system should make a rule in which the 1st and the last terminal exams should be taken in closed book form and the 2nd should be taken in open book. In this way, the teacher and system can see the results of the closed and open book and later on they can decide according to the comfort and benefit of students. In this way, the student can handle both the pressure.
