Television serves as a major developmental phase in technology by bringing events around the world to our home. Over the years it has become the major means for entertainment. Invention of such a mandatory electronic appliance available in almost every household as of today was purely the efforts of Philo Farnsworth in 1927.

Philo Taylor Farnsworth was born on August 19, 1906 is the key person behind the birth of all-electronic Television. He is considered the trailblazer of numerous electrical devices.

Childhood and interest in science

Philo’s scrutinies of scientific field started when he was a child. At a very young age, his quest for knowledge led to his keen involvement in electronic machines. From starting to repair his own generators to converting all the appliances in his house to be run by electronic power, Philo’s eagerness increased vividly.

His schooling was completely filled with his attentiveness towards Physics and Chemistry. Philo had his mind filled with new ideas backed by his supportive school guide.

Philo Farnsworth enrolled into National Radio Institute to obtain his certificate as a professional electrician and radiotrician. Discontinuing from Brigham Young University due to financial reasons and working every odd job possible did not stop him from pursuing his career into invention.

Invention of Television

In 1926, Philo began to convert his idea of first all-electronic television. His persuasive expression of his innovative plan helped him to obtain financial support from peers and family. Eventually in 1927, Philo Farnsworth invented the first ever electronic television and made public demonstrations. It ended up with claiming his patent in 1930 for first all-electric television.

With pouring investors, Philo’s invention was at its peak until The Radio Corporation of America (RCA) volunteered to buy his patent. He refused to sell his patent but RCA proceeded to utilize his concept and put forward various devices for which they were fined $1 million to be paid to Farnsworth.

Philo developed a complete television system with receiver and camera during the time span of 12 approximate years (1938-1951). It was produced commercially by Farnsworth Television and Radio Corporation.

His other notable inventions include first fully functional all-electronic image pickup device, astronomical telescope, nuclear fusion device, infrared night vision devices, electron microscope and baby incubator.

Philo Farnsworth has held about 300 patents at a national and international level for all his invention and sacrifice to science. His vision for inventing television was to completely telecast positive information through it all the households in the world. Awards and accolades he has received can never in par to the contributions he has made. He remains the least remembered person for inventing a daily necessity device.
