As Game of Thrones approaches towards an end the producers of the show finally thought to give the show a perfect farewell by giving chance to few artists across the globe to create theme songs for Game of Thrones. Many famous artists like Travis Scott, SZA, The Weeknd, Ellie Goulding, Mumford & Sons, The Lumineers and few more came forward with amazing tracks amongst which few are released and few are yet to come. Last week Travis Scott, SZA and The Weekend released a song in collaboration which is according to my opinion one of the best songs I have heard this year (link to the song attached above).

The track "Power is power" sums up the whole character history of the three basic heroes of Game of Thrones capable of gaining power over Westros: Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen and Night King. Here I am trying to analyze the song from a neutral perspective.

I was born of the ice and snow...With the winter wolves and the dark alone...The wildest night, I became the one...And you'll know you're mine when the silence comes

The song starts with The Weekend singing from the point of view of Jon Snow who spent his childhood in North (which signifies the usage of ice and snow). Jon Snow, with his direwolf, Ghost has lived his life in solace and loneliness first at Winterfell and at the Wall. "The wildest night" can be the reference to the strange birth Jon Snow has ( union of ice and snow) which started a chain of events around which the whole series is created.

Heavy is the crown only for the weak...The knife in my heart couldn't slow me down'...Cause power is power, the fire never goes out...I rise from my scars, nothing hurts me now...'Cause power is power...Now watch me burn it down...

Numerous times across the show we have seen Jon Snow fighting for life rather than Crown. He was so blindly in trusting that he was stabbed by his own brothers of Night's Watch ( s5e10). But yet later he resurrected from death (s6e2) proving that he is a worthy hero who has yet not finished his ultimate goal. The Phrase Power is Power has been repeated many times cross the song which is one of the most famous quotes of the Show uttered by Cersei Lannister.

I went down with the coldest one...And I know where I been 'cause I have bled before, yeah...How do I know if I let you stay...How do I know if we did it your way...You wouldn't take my place..Put me Away, I die lookin' up at your face...How. I ever know? Who can I trust?...Feelings of emptiness...Only love could kill me, God bless...

The next paragraph is dedicated to our great Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen and is sung by SZA. The first line itself is a reference to Khal Drogo and her marriage with him.

All her life she tried trusting people and they defy her from which she learnt and grew to become the biggest ruler in Essos. Nobody can attend her position as she is Unburnt and it gives her an edge over others. But ultimately she too has been lonely all her life and the feeling of emptiness which Khal Drogo left in her life was never filled until she met Jon Snow. Ironically though she cannot be killed by fire but her love for Jon Snow can be devastating for her.

The knife in my heart...Couldn't slow me down (couldn't slow me down)...'Cause power is power ('cause power is power)...The fire never goes out...I rise from my scars...Nothing hurts me now (nothing hurts me now)...'Cause power is power ('cause power is power)...Now watch me burn it down...

Again the repetition of same lines becomes significant as The Dragon was also stabbed on the heart in The Spoils of War (s7e4) but yet Drogon manages to destroy the whole Lannister army and again proving Cersei's words Power is Power right and burning down the Randyll and Dickon Tarly.

Breathe, feel the air that I breathe (Yeah)...Air that I, air that I breathe...Who's hotter? Been a monster with a the crown...So swamped by high water, keep your head up, you might drownIn this world, it's way colder, by the day, we count drown in...Been around, just been waitin' up, she gon' come around...I took a drag, bust it out the gate, my lil baby, slay...I wore a flag, put that on my face, ain't nobody safe...Lift the mask, they gon' have to see what they can't eraseI took a lot, so I took it back (Do-do-do-do-do, yeah)..Danger's on my mind...Ain't no knife, dagger, bullet that can do it...'Fore you, yeah, you know, I go the get straight through it, yeah

This paragraph sung by Travis Scott is dedicated to the Night King. He is capable of making the dead alive which means the air the living are breathing becomes very crucial and he is making the living realize it in one way or another. He is a King with a crown already on his head and his inability to travel in water is also mentioned here.

Scott goes back to remind that it has been a really long time since Night King was created and he has counted down every damn day. There is also mention of him taking down Viserion and bursting through Eastwatch towards the north.

The flag/mask can be reference can to the stories which made Night king a creature of mythic and fantasy and this time he is going to show his real face and power to the world which gave him pain. ( in some way maybe as he was created against his will by the Children).

The last lines in this paragraph are directly a solid reference to the resurrection power Night King possess and how he cannot be killed by any weapon other than dragonglass and Valyrian Steel.

The knife in my heart...It couldn't slow me down (couldn't slow me down)...'Cause power is power ('cause power is power)...The fire never goes out (oh)...I rise from my scars...Nothing hurts me now (nothing hurts me now)...'Cause power is power ('cause power is power)...Now watch me burn it down (ooh, yeah, yeah)...Now watch me burn it down...

This last paragraph again is a repetition but by this point, it has become so important that I would like to draw the similarity between these three characters in the matter of having Knife in the Heart: Jon Snow stabbed by Night's Watch Brothers, Daenerys' Dragon shot by Qyburn's Scorpion and Night King's creation by stabbing Dragonglass in heart by the Children.

Indeed such a sum in the form of a song is always exhilarating and refreshing. This song is already in my most played playlist and you can also enjoy this song on Wynk, Youtube and Spotify. I have attached the official Lyrical video of the song uploaded on Game of Thrones Youtube channel. So enjoy and don't forget to share this article. And lastly...

WINTER IS HERE...
