ISRO is Indian Space Research Organisation is the space agency of Government of India which has it's headquarters in Bengaluru. The Indian National Comittee for Space Research(INCSR) was set up by Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first Indian Prime Minister under DAE (Department of Atomic Energy) in 1962 which grew up to become ISRO in 1969 which is also under DAE. In 1972 Government of India set up Department of Space(DOS) bringing ISRO under DOS. Thus, ISRO becomes institutionalized for space research programes in India.

The objective and aim of ISRO is to develop in the field of space research and apply it to various national tasks.

The first ISRO satellite was named Aryabhata launched in 1975 by Soviet Union. Rohini was the first vehicle to be launched in orbit by the Indian-made launch machine SLV 3 in 1980.

ARYABHATTA SATELLITE

ISRO, since then, is launching satellites and placing satellites into geostationary orbits such as INSAT(Indian National Satellite System) to satisfy telecommunication, broadcasting and research in nation's favour and various other satelites in orbit. In October 2008 ISRO sent Chandrayaan 1 (lunar orbiter) and a(Marsorbiter) Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) in 2013, which entered Mars orbitin 2014, making India, the first nation to succeed on its first attempt to Mars, and the first space agency in Asia to reach Mars orbit.

INSAT

Various missions that have been carried out till date are mentioned below:

  1. Chandrayaan 1 was the first mission to Moon launched by using PSLV in 2008.

  2. Mars Orbittor Mission- Mangalyaan launched in 2013 by ISRO.

  • Missions to be exibited in near future are-

  1. Chandrayaan 2 which would be second lunar mission which will be launched by GSLV Mk3. It will embody land rover module. This mission is for improving and understanding the evolution on Mars. Its launch site will be Satish Dhawan Space Center.

  2. After launching Chandrayaan 2 ISRO will launch a mission to sun by launching Aditya L1 in 2020. This will study the corona of the Sun.

  3. India will also launch its own space station, Gaganyaan, a small module which will be used ot carry out microgravity experiment. Work on Gaganyaan will begin in 2022 after Indias first human space mission Chandryaan 2.

India is developing fast in every field including the field of space research as well. All these missions are technological seeds in the field of science set up. The upcoming generation has to build a mountain of that. ISRO has brought honor for India in the past years and a lot is further to be achieved. ISRO has become a globally competent space agency.

ISRO's motto: Space research in the service of mankind.

ISRO's vision: Harness of space technology for national development.
