Here is a short description to Five Books by Indian authors which I have recently discovered. Come, enjoy it with me.

Calling Sehmat

This is a story of an extra-ordinary act of patriotism, penned by Harinder Sikka. He has written about Sehmat(which is a pseudo-name) who risked her life to excavate the data that could destroy the naval might of her country. How has she uncovered the information, what happened to her after 1971 war, Where is she now and how does Sikka got to know about her?

Inspired by real events, and now a major motion picture, Raazi, this book is a spy thriller that would bring a picture of that unsung heroine in front of you.

But as every reader would say, ‘The Book Is Always Better’, read this book and explore more as an undercover agent.

Half a Rupee Stories

Starting from real life stories of Javed Akhtar and Sahir ludhianvi to the heart wrenching tales from LoC, The fables from Kashmir to the humour of love, Gulzar has scribed this book for all those people who want themselves to be lost in another world. The book has been originally written in Hindi which is translated in English by Sunjoy Shekhar and in Shekhar’s words itself, ‘A good Storyteller is the conscience-keeper of a nation. And Gulzar saab is a good storyteller.’

If you are a fan of Gulzar’s songs, you must read his books too. You are going to love them.

The Half Mother

This is a story of Haleema, who was a mother and a daughter once, now call herself an orphan and ‘A Half Mother.’ A heart-breaking and a soul-clenching tale, set in the 1990’s Kashmir, this is a story of a young girl who’s Father and son has been picked up by the agency and their name is now written in a list of ‘Missing People’. Written in lyrical prose, this debut novel of Shahnaz Bashir is a must read if you are interested in peeping into that Kashmir which is burning in a war.

The Mother I Never Knew

The mother I never knew is a collection of two novellas authored by a great Indian writer Sudha Murty. Reading Sudha Murty is like listening to a storyteller sitting beside you. You can create a picture in your head of all the characters and a event which will left a deep impact in your heart.

These two stories are about two people who discovered their lurking past accidently and now searching for a mother they never knew. It shows a dilemma of a person who is confused where his loyalties should fall and other who is repaying for his father’s debt.

The Mother I Never Knew is an emotional and stirring tale which will take you into another world and reveal what it really takes to be a Good Son.

An Indian Spy In Pakistan

It is a true narrative of Mohanlal Bhaskar’s years in Pakistan Jail as an Indian Spy. He was an undercover agent who was on a mission to disinter Pakistan’s nuclear plan. This book will take you on a journey you have never been before. You will come to know how secret agents works and what happen to them if they are betrayed by their own! You will know who these uncelebrated sons of Mother India are and how they are treated in enemy’s camp! It will take you on a path where you will discover the shrouded souls of our spies who were tortured in a worst way possible in enemy’s camp and how our own Government treat them!

‘An Indian Spy In Pakistan’ has been translated from Hindi ‘Main Pakistan Mein Bharat Ka Jassos Tha’ by Jai Ratan. I would highly recommend this book to you people. These kind of books doesn’t get much coverage even though they should be mentioned on the top of Must Read Books. Read it and salute our soldiers.
