Ragging- An Evil Practice In Educational Institutes :

College life plays a vital role in an individual's life because it helps in determining the future of a person and also is a time when students face the realities of life. Parents send their children to the college with lots of hopes, that their child will pass out brightly and will fetch them a secure future. But the way to success may not be as simple as it seems.The practice of ragging still exists in our society. Ragging refers to the torture done by the seniors on the new entrants as a mode of humiliation. They do it for fun or to repeat doing the same which their seniors did to them.

There are two types of ragging, one is verbal and the other one is physical. Usually, the effect of verbal ragging is lesser than physical one. It also differs from person to person, male to female. Ragging is mainly determined by the person's behaviour. For example, egoistic persons have to face problems until they change their way of thinking. The typical examples of ragging girls are making them sing and dance. The typical example of ragging boys is that they are forced to bath with cold water in winters. Some students tease new students about their looks. The tall and the short, The fat and the lean students become their easy victims.

Parents, rich or poor, devote their lives completely towards their children so that they can acquire admission in renowned colleges. Poor parents even sell or mortgage their properties with a hope that the sacrifice will pay off, their child will one day shine like a star but they don't have any idea about speed breakers like ragging. It harasses young ones mentally and physically. They get afraid and it lowers their self-esteem and some students who are sensitive and soft-hearted can't bear this and they commit suicide leaving behind a grieving family. It takes time to get adjusted in a new place but at that moment if someone lowers their self-confidence then that place becomes no less than hell to them. As a consequence , their academic careers are also affected by the brutal practice like ragging. Ragging is worse than murder. If you murder someone he/she will die instantly but if you rag someone he/she will die every moment.

In a nutshell, Ragging should be banned because it harms the life of the students but this stupid thing will not be banned by only saying, but some prompt actions need to be taken towards this problem. Authorities should deal with this problem with an iron hand. College should arrange mentoring sessions for freshers. Anti-ragging cells should also be established. A fresher party should be organized by the college for the interaction of seniors and juniors. If this thing is not stopped, our world would be in big trouble because this world depends upon our future.
