The pictures from the Met gala 2019 are storming all over the internet and we cannot keep calm. From drooling over Lady Gaga’s sass to Jared Leto’s spooky replica of his own head, this year’s Met gala has showcased enough for the viewers to talk, drool and meme-ify the quirky looks sported by celebs on the red carpet.

So, What is Met gala all about?

Met gala is an annual opening event and afundraiser, in the form of a fashion exhibition, for the Metropolitan Museum Of Art’s Costume Institute Gala . It takes place every first Monday of the month of May at New York city’s Metropolitan Museum. It started in 1946 and over the decades it has emerged as a super bowl of fashion with faces marking their presence at the red carpet and stirring quite a buzz with their looks. A theme is an integral part of what forms the basis for the Met gala.

This year’s theme was inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay Notes on Camp. Even though the looks for this year have been flooding the feed, no body is quite able to comprehend the theme that was set for this year. Other than one meaning that must be running through your mind when your hear the word ‘camp’, the word means ‘A style or mode of personal or creative expressionthat is absurdly exaggerated and often fuses elements of high and popular culture" according to Merriam Webster dictionary.

The hosts’ list for the year, other than Anna Wintour (a chair of the event since 1995) comprised of Alessandro Mitchell, Harry Styles and Serena Williams. Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour has been in charge of the event for 23 years now.

A ticket for the event costs $30,000 per person and the tables cost around $2,75,000. Market biggies like Apple buy the table at the event and offer them to the people but a whopping amount alone doesn’t land you a seat at the event. The whole guest list gets approved by Anna Wintour. A seating chart is already drafted five months before the event is supposed to take place. The chart remains inclusive of every little detail from allotting different seating to the exes, to who can see whom from their table. Even the guest list for the paparazzi and press is prepared. The money generated builds for an eight figure sum for the Costume Institute. There are sponsors for the gala, each year. The Met gala was sponsored by 'Gucci' this year.

Posting on social media from the event has been a big No but that has not restrained people like Jenner sisters from letting the world a peek into what goes on at the grand event. Mobile phones and even publicists are not allowed inside the ball.

The fashion world event encourages people to dress their best and sticking as close to the theme as possible. People trying to play safe with their looks are usually categorized as banal and boring. Celebs were seen at their outrageous best and some of the iconic looks from the met gala 2019 have been Billy Porter’s, Celine Dion and Ryan Murphy’s looks.
