Abortion, Who Gets To Control It?

The thumbnail contains the pictures of the 25 middle- aged all male Republicans who just voted to ban abortion in Alabama. This is recent news which is not only disgusting but also a wake-up call to everybody who thinks that women actually managed to achieve power equal to that of men.

These men voted to pass the most restrictive abortion law in the United States, outlawing the procedure completely at all stages of pregnancy. It only allows exemption for women who lay at serious health risks, and DO NOT exempt women who have become pregnant due to rape/ incest.

This criminilizes the procedure, making it a felon for doctors to perform abortion. They could be sentenced to prison for upto 99 years. Here’s the most important piece of information : none of Alabama’s three female senators had voted in favour of this bill. This essentially makes it a decision completely controlled by men.

Abortion is a right and the government does not get the power to control what happens to our bodies and they do not get to make decisions that have an impact only on our lives.

It’s absolutely unfair that 25 Middle aged men who will never have to go through pregnancy or have to experience the pressure of being a parent before they had the chance to get completely ready get to decide and force women what to do with their bodies.

"I think Alabama has gone too far,"hesaid Wednesday during an episode of "The 700 Club.""There's no exception for rape or incest. It's an extreme law and they want to challenge Roe v. Wade." The Alabama Senate passed the bill 25-6 late Tuesday night. The law only allows exceptions "to avoid a serious health risk to the unborn child's mother," for ectopic pregnancy and if the "unborn child has a lethal anomaly." Democrats re-introduced an amendment to exempt rape and incest victims, but the motion failed on an 11-21 vote.

Banning abortions does not stop abortions. It stops SAFE and LEGAL abortions. Unsafe and unhealthy methods of terminating an abortion may not only result in the death of the unborn child but in many cases the mother also loses her life. It is disgusting to put women in the situation of either risking their life or accepting it even if that’s not what they would have chosen.
