The Colorful Festival

"Holi ai re, ai re, Holi ai re.."

Holi, the festival of colors, love, and togetherness, is celebrated in India every year. It brings vibrant chalk to the streets of India. People get together and apply holi, throw water and hug each other. They dance on the music and drums, sing Holi songs and enjoy the moment. It signifies the victory of good over evil and arrival of spring and end of winter.

Holi in India is celebrated with different ways in different states. For Example- Lathmar Holi in Uttar Pradesh, where women beat a man with the sticks. The Holi cow festival in Delhi, it is a music festival with live performances. Holi elephant festival in Jaipur, it features elaborately painted elephants and includes a fun activity, tug of war.

Holi is also called by different names like Phakuwa, Dol Jatra, Hola Mohalla, Yaosang, Rang Panchami and many more.

"Bura Na Mano Holi Hai", that is, Don't mind, its holi. This phase is popularly used by every Indian on holi. Special dishes and sweets are made, Bhang (Hemp) is prepared and colorful dresses are worn, people with so much enthusiasm get ready to put holi on others.

Holi is the most awaited festival in India. Pleasant weather, bright sunshine and blooming flowers makes this season perfect to fill the sky with colors and land with happiness and enjoyment . It's the time when everybody is ready to target their loved ones, enymies and unknown people with colours filled with love and affection. Throwing water on people with Pichkaris and water balloons is the most fun activity.

Before playing holi people even take some precautions, like, applying coconut or mustard oil on the body and hair, or apply sunsceen, they even apply nailpaint, wear sunglasses, use herbal colours, don't stay in wet clothes, keep themselves hydrated.

The festival marks full moon day of Phagun, the 12th month of the Hindu calendar.
This time Holi will be celebrated on 20th March 2019.
