If you’re a modern day smartphone user, you probably have witnessed situations like group of friends standing together but not interacting with each other but are involved in typing and scrolling news feeds on social media. Statistics shows that a major portion of all the mobile phone users are teens having age between 13 to 17 years. As the new generation smartphones comes with stable and faster connectivity, once they get the internet access they would build a new empire there by chatting with friends or relatives, scrolling news feeds and watching movies or web series. But is it healthy to live such a life inside that idiot box! Of course not! So this needs attention when parents are offering mobile phones to their children.

Toxic effects on teens:

Mobile phones are very useful if used wisely and efficiently. It’s a major tool for communication and no one live without having one in their pocket. But every technology has its ill effects on us and mobile phone technology is not an exception.

• Text obsessed users including teens and adults suffer with inflammation of thumb jointdue to over texting. This inflammation will lead to problems in the thumbs which can eventually lead to chronic pain. This is termed as Teenage Texting Tendonitis.

• Mobile phone uses electromagnetic waves for all forms of communications. Ourbrain has its own electromagnetic impulses that can get distorted by using mobile phones even for just 2 minutes. So it leads to disturbed brain activity.

Academic performance can get disturbed. Children now are more prone to use smartphones all the time even in schools. Their attention gets distracted in the class and they miss out important lessons.

Increasing anxiety among the teens. Teens often get angry on a late reply by any friend whereas they feel elated if the reply comes instantly.

• Over use of mobile phones is leading us towards a situation where teens are more prone to brain cancer than adults are. With the electromagnetic radiations of mobile phones absorbed in the tissues, we are risking our life.

Sleep-less nights! Plays a major role in distortion of their natural body clock. People keep on replying to texts which leads to irritation when they wake up late in the morning.

• Cell phone radiation can damage eyes and causes blurred visions, eye fatigue and headache after prolonged use of smartphone. They emit HEV (blue light having lower frequency) which has greater tendency to damage living tissues permanently. Blue HEV is also emitted out by the sun and LED lights but we do not stare at them for a long time as we do in case of smartphones.
