People believe that when Lord Shiva as traveling to Kashi (Varanasi) with fellow 1 crore gods and goddess, they took a halt at this place and rest for the evening. The next morning when Lord Shiva woke up, he found no other woke up which made him furious and he transformed all the other deities into stone sculptures and cursing them to stay there for eternity.
