Sleeping beauty

The Disney movie about Sleeping beauty tells us that Aurora fell asleep by pricking her finger and was awaken by the kiss of the prince. But in the original tale, the princess is naked and in coma and the prince is tempted to make her his. He rapes her and after 9 months she gives birth to a child. The child mistakes the finger for the breast and chews the finger. While chewing, the flax of the spindle comes out, and the princess is surprised that she was raped and now is a mother of a child.

Cinderella

In the Disney movie Cinderella, the shoe is left behind by Cinderella and the prince orders his duke to search for the girl. Cinderella’s stepsisters also try the shoes but fail and Cinderella is found. In the original story, the elder step sister cuts of her toe to fit in the shoe. The prince takes her to the palace and the pigeons attack her. He comes to know and returns her back. Then the younger one cuts off her heel and the pigeons attack her before the prince takes her. Then, when Cinderella and the prince are getting married, the pigeons rip off the eyes of the stepsisters who wanted to do harm at her wedding.

Snow white

In the Disney version, Snow White is awakened by the kiss of the prince. But in the original story, Snow White is awakened by the prince’s horse. While the prince takes snow white to the palace, the horse jostles the coffin which makes the apple to fall out of her throat. When the wedding is going on, the evil stepmother is forced to wear red- hot iron shoes and dance till she falls dead. Not a happy ending to a children fairy tale. Ain’t it?

Rapunzel

In the movie ‘Tangled’ by Disney movies, the story is very different from the original one. In the original story, the prince climbs the tower and makes Rapunzel pregnant, when the witch comes to know she cuts off her hair and banishes her to a desert. When the prince arrives, he climbs the cut-off hair and falls into thorny bushes, loosing his eyesight. He wandered everywhere in search of Rapunzel, who he finds in the desert with her child. Rapunzel cries and the tears heal the prince. They return to the kingdom happily after that.

The little mermaid

The irony of a mermaid getting married to a prince was bizarre. In the original story, Ariel sacrifices her voice for human legs. Since the prince only heard her, she was impossible to recognise while dumb. The prince gets married to a human princess. Heartbroken, she goes to Ursula, who tells her in order to break the curse, Ariel will have to rip the prince’s heart and wet her feet to get her tail and the voice back. To which Ariel refuses. She isn’t able to cope up with the pain and suicides by jumping into the water.
