b) KOSPI Index
The Korea Composite Stock Price Index or KOSPI is an index of all common stocks traded on the Korea Exchange. It represents the South Korean market and economy. It was introduced in 1983 with the base value of 100 as of January 04, 1980. It is based on market capitalization. It consists of more than 760 components and the top companies based on market capitalization include Samsung, SK Hynix, Hyundai Motors, LG chem., etc.

Korean stock exchange is the sole operator of securities in Korea. The products traded on the exchange are stocks, bonds, ETFs, Exchange linked warrants and real estate investment trusts, derivatives, commodity instruments and foreign exchange.There are about 2000 companies listed on the exchange. KOSPI is the flagship index of the Korean stock exchange and other indices include KOSPI 200 (large cap), KOSPI 100 and KOSPI 50, KOPI and KODI. There are also sector specific indices like banks, chemicals, etc.

c) Straits Times Index and Singapore Exchange
Straits Times Index (STI) is a market capitalization weighted index that tracks the performance of the top 30 and most liquid companies listed on Singapore Exchange Limited. It is the flagship index of FTSE index series and is jointly calculated by Singapore Press Holdings, Singapore exchange and FTSE group. The index is calculated based on market-value weighted stock market index. STI began trading on 31st August, 1998 and is reviewed on ad-hoc basis as and when required. Previous to 31st August 1998, the index was called Straits Times Industrials Index (STII).

Singapore Stock Exchange Limited provides different services related to stocks, derivatives. Depository services, clearing services and provides global access to Singapore markets via SGX ETS (Electronic trading system). All stocks traded on Singapore exchange belong to one of the two groups: The SGX Main Board and SGX catalyst. To be listed on the mainboard, there are certain criteria that need to be fulfilled while there are no such criteria to be fulfilled for getting listed on SGX Catalist. Companies listed in SGX Catalist are majorly growth stocks.

d) ASX 200 Index and Australian Stock Exchange
The S&P/ ASX 200 index is a market capitalization weighted and float adjusted stock market index of stocks listed on Australian Securities Exchanges. The index is maintained by Standard and Poor and is considered as a benchmark for Australian equity performance. It is based on largest 200 companies on ASX which together account for 82% of Australia’s share market capitalization. The ASX 200 started was started in March 200 with a value of 3133.3. There are 3 parameters namely, market capitalization, liquidity and Listing that a company should fulfil for inclusion in ASX 200.


Australian securities exchange was incorporated on 1st April, 1987 and was renamed to Australian Securities Exchange in December 2006. Australia’s capital markets are one of the most developed in the world with its financial market ranked 5th out of 57 of world leading financial systems at World Economic forum. Its equity markets, derivatives markets, bond market and foreign exchange markets are all amongst the top ten in the world in terms of its size.

e) TSX Composite Index
The TSX composite index is the benchmark Canadian Index, representing roughly 70% of the market capitalization of the Toronto Stock Exchange. It has 250 companies included in it. The companies are chosen basis market capitalization, Liquidity and domicile. To be included in the TSX index, criteria of market capitalization (should be minimum 0.05% of the market index and the weighted market price should be greater than 1 for past 3 months), the trading value should be more than .025% of total trading value of all securities in the exchange. The other two criteria are related to domicile, the stock should be listed on Toronto Stock Exchange and be incorporated under Canadian Law.

Toronto stock exchange is 9th largest stock exchange in the world by market capitalization. Both businesses based in Canada and outside are listed on the exchange. The stock exchange has more than 1500 companies listed (including ETFs and other structured products).The exchange is owned by TMX group, a leading financial services group that operates in equities, fixed income, derivatives and energy ,markets exchanges. The group also owns TSX Venture exchange (TSXV), which serves the public venture equity market.
