All things must be examined, debated, investigated without exception and without regard for anyone's feelings.―Denis Diderot

In a democracy like India, freedom of expression has an earth-shattering role. As a result, we need to have a free, frank and fearless media. It is essential not only in democracy but in every other form of government. This powerful “FOURTH ESTATE” working efficiently by its various code of ethics creates a positive and constructive impression on the information keeps the people in touch with what goes on around in the country or the world.

Media is responsible not only for putting forth the achievements of the administrators but also for being the best means of communication of views and opinions between the government and the masses. A bold presentation of right news, views, information and reports help in the formation of healthy

public opinion. The truthful and objective reporting strengthens the bond among the people. But the irony is that certain media houses indulge themselves in yellow journalism. The baseless scoops, biased news and the efforts to create exciting news, harm the image of whole media.

A while back there was a rat race among various news channels to create exciting news when the tension between India and Pakistan escalated after Pulwama attack. The news studios were jampacked with audience and various defence experts were debating on the stragety of war that should be followed

during the war with Pakistan. To give a especial touch to this whole scenario the newsrooms were designed to create an aura of war-room.

It poisons the thinking rather than uniting people on humanitarian grounds.
The media houses owned by business magnets give taunted and distorted
version of information and news with a view to satisfying their interests. Such
media houses are needed to be banned.

A free media needs to work for a united cause. In a democratic society, the
media must uphold and support a just and righteous cause. It is true that if the
press is not free how it can fight for the rights and liberties of the citizens
belonging to different sections of the society.

The media should be free to work for the interest of the nation and not misuse the power to create harmful sentiments. The wrong deeds of the government should also be criticised to bring about healthy changes. A free media indicates free thinking, an independent nation and a liberal outlook. Then alone grows the feeling of brotherhood, love and sharing.

People involved in this profession will have to realize the massive responsibility they shoulder and sacredness of the duty they perform. They must not evaluate the success of government with a jaundice eye. Instead, at the spur of moment Indian media should blaze the trail to combat social evils,

communal forces and also keep the government to its toes, committed to its promises and try to make people politically conscious and keep patriotism and national pride alive in the people.
