अतिथिदेवो भव: - The guest is equivalent to God. Says the popular mantra from Taittirīya Upanishad and it depicts the hostility of Indians towards their guests. India is a beautiful country. A lifetime would be short to view all the beautiful sights that the country has to offer. The majestic Himalayas, the sparkling ocean, the dry desert, the dancing rivers, all appeal to tourists around the world.

In today’s world, tourism does not merely mean a vacation, a source of entertainment tourism in recent years has emerged as one of the most socio-economic sectors of the nation. it is now recognized as an industry providing substantial support to the economy of the country. tourism promotes National Integration and International Understanding. It also helps in the improvisation of infrastructure, creates more opportunities for employment and most importantly provides foreign exchange.

Tourism in India plays an earth-shattering role in the country’s economy, cultural growth, and unity. India’s great diversity and cultural richness provide the potential for growth intourism.

The basic reason behind the increase or development of tourism in India is religion. Places of pilgrimage attract local as well as foreign tourists year after year. The rise in economic status of an average middle-class family, better income and good incentives provided by private organizations to their outstanding workers have also contributed to harnessing tourism potential of the country.

One of the most favorable aspects of tourism is that it creates more job opportunities and has great potential for employment in the wake of its rise. Presently about 8.5 billion of peopleare directly employed in this field 2.4% of total employed people in India. In addition, this industry provides indirect employment to about another 20 million people.

Karl Rock,Mr. Bald andHarald Baldr are some of the renowned foreigners and YouTubers who couldn't stop themselves from exploring majestic India and have welcomed everyone with open arm to visit India.

There are various destinations in India including places with historical and archaeological importance, religious places, wildlife sanctuaries, national parks, hill stations, sea beaches, and deserts. The lofty Himalayas are still a favorite destination in the country with its breathtaking snow-clad peaks, waterfalls, rivers, forests, and wildlife.

There are places of historical and religious importance in, Punjab, Haryana, Bengal Bihar, Delhi, Orissa. Rajasthan is not only famous for its forts and places but also attracts tourist due to the haunting beauty of its desert. The islands Andaman, Nicobar and Lakshwadeep too are maare major touristic attractions. Thus, India has great tourist possibilities which can be exploited further to make it a good revenue earning sector of the Indian economy.
