Robert:

The cop’s sudden unexpected reaction pulled me out of a trance, where I had been remembering all the moments Janet and I had spent together. I had just lived every single day all over again. From the day we’d first met, to the day she had come to bid me adieu at the airport, I relived every moment. I still could not get myself to believe that she was actually gone.

Honestly, I was shattered. I could feel my whole world falling apart, breaking into millions of pieces. That’s exactly when I realized that I had to put all the broken pieces together, and find the person who killed my wife. I had to catch hold of him, and send him to the place where he belonged.

With this determination in my heart, I looked at the cop.

“What’s wrong? What happened?”

Mr. Steve looked up at me for a while. He rubbed his eyebrow with his right thumb and finally spoke up,

“Mr. Robert, your wife has not been poisoned.”

“What do you mean? What happened to her?”

“Well…”

Saying so, he moved his gloved index finger across Janet’s neck.

“See those marks?”

I stared at her neck for a while. She was still wearing the pendant that I had gifted her. Tears welled up in my eyes all over again. I controlled my emotions and spoke to Mr. Steve.

“Yes, I do.”

“They indicate that your wife has been strangled, and not poisoned. The poison has been given in a mild dose to make her unconscious. Most probably.”

I kept quiet. I just had no clue what to say.
Mr. Steve went on.

“It seems like the person who killed her hated her a lot. This is not an ordinary strangulation. She has been strangled with the maximum force possible.”

I was totally blank. Why would someone hate an angel like Janet? She had always been nice to everyone, even to the ones who did not deserve it. I just nodded my head, not knowing what to say.

Mr. Steve examined the bottle of poison beside Janet’s body. After a while, he said,

“There another important thing that you need to know.”
