She devoted herself in her tasks with all her dedication, but she was not able to stop thinking about her love. Goddess Demeter felt sympathy for the poor girl.
She advised the princess “Go to Aphrodite’s temple and offer herself to her as submissive. Perhaps you will curb the Aphrodite’s wrath & maybe you will reconquer your love too”.
The princess took goddess advice & went to goddess Aphrodite’s temple in hope that she will be forgiven and can conquer her love back. But Aphrodite refused to forgive her so easily. She said “ You insolent girl. You have caused such a chaos in MY realm. All the prayers & offerings that were mine were sent to you. You expects me to forgive you for such a horrendous crime. Also you have broken my son’s heart”. She told her that she will have to perform difficult labours to earn the goddess’s forgiveness.
The first task for Psyche was to go to a grainer and separate the grain seeds that were completely mixed.
Eros was listening to this impossible task, asked the ants to help Psyche. As a result the young princess was able to complete her first task.
Aphrodite was outraged, as her second labour she asked the princess to bring the golden wool of dangerous sheep receding on the earth.
The Goddess of river helped the young princess to sheer the lamb with golden wool without getting attacked & injured.
Her third labour demanded by the goddess of beautywas the water from the source of river Styx, which was located on the top of a mountain. The task seemed to be completely impossible for the mortal princess.
God Zeus took pity on the princess & ordered his eagle to gather water from the source & deliver to Psyche.
Hence her third labours was completed.
Aphrodite was miffed and said to the princess “ I know you were able to complete the tasks because the gods took pity on you. But the next task you will have to bear all the work yourself.”
