“Being Yourself”……this is something that is definitely easier said than done! In today’s modern world we are constantly told to be ourselves. All successful people through their tweets and other forms of interaction like speeches, seminars, biographies, autobiographies etc make it a point to remind us that we are all unique and thereby should not emulate others. We can draw inspirations from others and bring in changes if required but definitely need to stay true to ourselves. We don’t need to be others because we are unique in ourselves and the world doesn’t care for a photocopy! And what we are is reflected through the decisions and choices we make!

Though all of the above sounds too motivational and inspirational, the way forward isn’t that easy! In the pursuit of being ourselves we are constantly judged and questioned. Our choices and decisions are put to comparisons with others. What’s astonishing about it is the fact that these comparisons apply to everyone irrespective of your age, gender, caste and various other parameters. These comparisons can be about the time you return home, the age you start earning, the age you decide to get married, the clothes you choose to wear, the people you want to hang out with, the way you want to relax yourself, the marks you score in an exam and the list goes on and on. The comparisons are so many that we do become deaf and dumb towards them, however sub consciously we also stop expressing our true selves and condition ourselves to somehow fit in the societal boxes to avoid being judged! If this is put to practice for too long, we do tend to lose a part of ourselves.

It’s extremely important to follow the code of conduct of the society and ensure that our way of living in no way hampers that of other people. But apart from this, we don’t need any reason to suppress ourselves. Life is what we make it and how we live it. And it makes complete sense to live it freely away from the fears of being judged. When we put this fear on the backburner, we enjoy the journey called Life. In short “Being Yourself” is the key to a happy “YOU” and to your happy ”LIFE”!
