Augmented reality is an interactive experience of intertwining two worlds, our real world objects with the "augmented" computer generated perceptual information. The reality is augmented by bringing changes digitally in our senses i.e. visual, auditory, haptic and olfactory. This is done by the software processing the environment and algorithms working in the hardware processing the input data to give an overall interactive session.
The ground work of augmented reality started in early 1990's. Virtual Fixtures systems developed but the US Air Force's Armstrong Laboratory in 1992. Augmented reality is just brining in the digital aspects and information of the objects around ourselves to understand there usability .
The applications of AR are far fetched and is in extensive use in fields like Video Games, Social Interaction, Medical Research and Application, Military, Broadcast and Tourism. Some of the present day examples of AR implementation are -

To amplify the interests in a customer and keep them intrigued about the product is where the augmented reality may come handy. AR uses the integrated print and video making strategies which get triggered by processed images. It's different from image processing as it can add multiple layers of links of social media and videos in a frame.

The company’s most widely used and celebrated feature is it's well popularised filters. These filters are the most easily explainable AR extensions. It is a great source of public distraction and comedy and that is why we all love it . The "dog" filter in general is the most commonly loved filter out there.

Although it is not 100 percent safe i.e. if people use it out of certain limit then it will be more than dangerous. With that being said i think the future is ready for a more interactive and informative applications of AR.
