Movies have been an indispensable source of entertainment in our lives. Let it be sci-fi movies like Terminator or horror movies like Conjuring, the real task is to make them appealing to the audience. Here is where technology comes to play,to use special effects and other techniques and extend beyond reality. Here is a list of some technologies which are used in Hollywood.

Miniature Filming

Filming scenes involving disaster scenes can be costly, Miniature filming is used to produce these effects. A miniature effect is a special effect created for motion pictures and television programs using scale models. These models are often combined with high-speed photography orshots to make gravitational and other effects appear more convincing to the viewer. The use of miniatures has largely been used in the Hollywood. These effects are used in movies like Lord of The Rings and Harry Potter.

Motion capture

Motion-Capture also known as MoCap in short, is a type of acting in which an actor wears markers or sensors on a skintight bodysuit. The cameras are present in different angles to record the movements of the actor, even recording the 3-D position of sensors without recording the rest of the actor. Then techniques like sampling is done aided by computer. The result is then used to create a digital character and place him in different areas like in space. This technique was used to make Avatar which was known for its breakthrough in film technology.

De-Aging VFX

Hollywood has grown a craving for the de-aging techniques especially when there is a need to shoot prequels or flashback scenes in the movie. The de-aging technique makes the actor younger on screen, this technique is in demand and many famous movies have implemented it.Only a few studios have been able to use this technique, due to the technicalities and cost involved. Movies like The Lord of the Rings, Guardians of The Galaxy, Terminator Genisys, etc are few to have used this technique.

IMAX (ImageMAXimum)

IMAX is a system of high-resolution cameras, film formats, and film projectors. Graeme Ferguson, Roman Kroitor, Robert Kerr, and William C. Shaw developed the first IMAX cinema projection in early 1970s in Canada. What makes these cameras unique is that the film runs horizontally, which makes image width greater than the width of film. There are many studios which have used IMAX cameras, one of the movies being Dark knight . Christopher Nolan had to pay almost one-third of the movie budget for accidentally breaking the camera. The blackhole scene from Interstellar was shot from IMAX cameras.
