Whether it be the corporate world, personal life or even in space women are killing it in every field today. This is a time where people wait for Captain Marvel or Wonder Woman to come and save the day. So at such a time where women are revered and vocal about their thoughts, a decision is taken to make traveling in public transport free for women in the National Capital for their own safety BUT WHY?

I know that the world is not all glitz and glamour and there are prominent safety issues for women but how does this decision prevent it at all? In the words of the Delhi CM "Women who can afford the Metro may purchase the ticket and women who are poor and cannot afford the ticket may travel for free". So I ask him if there is a family of four people consisting of the father, mother, daughter and a son who are poor and cannot afford a ticket, the mother and daughter get to travel and the father and son do what? Walk up to the destination?

I mean it cannot get more illogical than this, a separate coach for women is understandable and quite a good solution for safety problems but free travel? Not only in India but all over the world public transports act as a symbol of equality where people from diverse backgrounds, genders, age groups pay the same price and travel together. To make transportation easier for the poor the decision could have been to subsidize or why not? Make transportation free for all people under the poverty line. But no, how would the vote bank increase then right?

Its gender specific decisions like these that rebuild the diminishing wall between us. I am not saying that the intent of the government is wrong but the execution really does need improvement. How is the ticket vendor supposed to distiguish between a rich and poor woman? Is it going to be on the basis of their appearance? Are they going to ask all women to take a written test? and how is free transportation leading to women safety? Do they provide a free sword? Does it have laser beam? I am sure I don't know
