The 2018 series developed by Roberto Aguirre -Sarcasa casting Kiernan Shipka as the lead character is a modern adaptation of the Archie Comics’ ‘Sabrina’. The series is produced by Warner Bros and by all ways it has given justice to this well reputed production arm. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is recently popularised as a spooky yet thrilling TV Series. The First Season consist of 20 episodes and each of them does not fail to arouse our curiosity spikes.
The cursed yet most happening town of Greendale gave birth to not only an eccentric gang of teenagers but also to the finest witches and warlocks of all time. The drift between the mortals and the Unholy disciples of the Dark Lord is seen at it’s peak in the following episodes. In spite of Sabrina’s innumerable efforts and mischiefsto bridge the distance between Heaven and Hell, the subsequent events seem to take a whole new turn. The building suspense towards every end drives us insanely to load and press the play button of the next part. This supernatural horror web television is brilliantly crafted and ornamented by several eerie instincts and Satanic perversions. The half-breed or half-mortal witch, Sabrina, leads the Series along with other characters like Harvey Kinkle, Hilda and Zelda Spellman, Ambrose Spellman, Roz, Prudence and many others. The smart use of Latin spells and incantations deliberately attempt to create the feeling of the darkness and Anti-Christ foundations. Use of words like- ‘Lord of Unholiness’, ‘Desecrated Church’, ‘Anti-Pope’ and few other supernatural references increase the realism of the series and makes us more drawn towards it.
According to the deeper analysis by the insider.com, the Series has drawn a number of references from the Archie Comics. Additional facts like, The Professors of the Academy of Unseen Arts are named after real people and how there were various scenes of the Archie Comics publications in Doctor Cerberus’ bookstore act as detailing effects that further blurs the line between reality and fiction. The entire series successfully created and distinguished two different worlds and also explained the differences between their ideologies and beliefs. But caution was taken in the portrayal of the Dark World. Despite it’s initial Demonic instances , characteristics of Sabrina and Hilda Spellman prove to be more humane and justifiable than the Divine Angels or Witch hunters. The representation of this unseen community is no less than realistic and creatively thought. The decision of basing the entire plot around the fictional world is yet another success by the Archies Comics Team and Sarcasa. It is the culmination of several imaginary minds who have deliberately suspended their logical premise by highlighting the sublimity of the series.
‘The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’represents some of the predominant figures of the modern society. The protagonist itself represents the dilemmatic teenage phase and how it peaks off with unrecognized roots. The friendship shown by Harvey, Sabrina, Roz and Theo is an exemplary instance of relationships not binding by blood but hearts. Ambrose Spellman never left the side of his cousin and the utmost family support shown by Aunt Hilda and Zelda are constant and throughout. Even the role played by Sabrina’s omnipresent familiar holds a value in every episode. The contrasting features of Harvey Kinkle and Nick Scratch unite while saving Sabrina from the clasp of the Dark Lord.
The Series narrates the often unheard Biblical relation between Lilith and Lucifer Morningstar after they fell from the Garden of Eden. Patriarchal and misogynistic understanding of Father Blackwood and his several attempts of subjugating the feminine presence of the towering societal figures drunk with power and lust. The Dark Lord is the epitome make-up of evil, wickedness, ignoble, nefarious and devilish representation standing against goodwill and virtue.
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a worthy watch to draw upon in our leisure times. The surprising ending of the 20th episode makes us wonder and lark our imaginary minds to a further development of more and more episodes.
