We all have grown up watching Disney movies and Disney stories played a huge part in shaping our dreams and inducing the idea of prince charming in our mind. I am going to talk about the origins of some of the Disney princesses; they are dark and nothing like awes trucking Disney movies
No matter if you are a boy or girl, we all have watched Cinderella at some point in our life. For some, it was a bedtime story too. She is one of the most iconic Disney princesses. Her story has encouraged many women to find their own prince charming for years now. In the Disney version of the story, her stepmother was vicious, in the original book by the Grimm brothers, the case was similar. In addition, her biological father was cruel to her as well. In the book, her name is Ashen puddle and she used the power of magic to disappear whenever she wants. Unlike in the Disney version of the story, fairy godmother did not give her a makeover. In the books, she planted a magical tree near her mother’s grave, which gave her a makeover; She waters the tree with her tears every day. In the original story, the Cinderella actually loses her slipper because the prince made a trap as she keeps on running away from him. Cinderella loses her slipper and the rest is history. The Cinderella’s stepsisters cut off their toes in order to fit in that slippers.
Disney princess sleeping beauty has its origin from a 17th-century Italian book, in that book the name of the princess is Talia. The initial story is same, Talia pricked her finger on a spindle and fall asleep. What happens after that is way gruesome for children’s story. There was no prince, but there was a king. The kiss of the king did not wake Talia up. Instead, he raped her. She gave birth to twins after nine months. One of the twins sucked the splinter from her finger, waking her up. After that, she falls in love with the king, but the king was already married to another woman. That woman tried to kill the twins and fed them to the king, but luckily, she fails to do so. Nope not a children’s story
Snow white gets her happy ending just like books but she is a perfect example of ‘Even princess takes revenge’
After waking up, she got married to the prince. In her wedding, the evil queen had to dance around wearing iron-hot shoes as a punishment, burning her feet until she dies.
The original story of Rapunzel written by the Grimm brothers is nothing like the fun-loving Disney version of princess Rapunzel. According to their tale, the Rapunzel was given to the witch as payment for stealing herbs from witch’s garden. Just as movies, witch locks the Rapunzel in her tower and her hair grew 30 feet long. Her hair gained the attention of the passing prince, pretending to be the witch, prince climbed up the tower to Rapunzel.Soon after they fall in love with each other and gets physical. She gets pregnant, but she had no idea about it since she did not have any knowledge of how babies are born. The witch knew what is going on and she banished Rapunzel in a dessert. In the desert, Rapunzel cut off her hair. Meanwhile, the prince climbs up to the tower and realize Rapunzel is gone. Witch push him, he falls from the tower, and that made him blind. Rapunzel gave birth to the twins in dessert all alone and after several years prince and Rapunzel unite. Rapunzel cure’s the prince blindness with her tears and they have their happily ever after.
