There could be various reasons for our stress. Maybe we are going through extreme anxiety problem or we are very cautious regarding the situation we are in. maybe sometimes our environment is not calm enough, extreme noise and discomfort due to the environmental condition can actually play a major role in making us stressful.

However, there have been times in our life, when during midnight, we are laying on our bed, wide-awake because something is bugging and we can’t sleep due to it. When we are stressed. Maybe because we have some test tomorrow or reason could be that you might have an important meeting. No matter what the reason, even though we are prepared and still we feel stressed. The reason behind id we keep on thinking about the future scenarios. Example: what will happen tomorrow? We keep on asking this question to our self. This is actually a very small example, sometimes we have no upcoming stressful events lined up in our schedule but we still feel stressful.

What I am trying to convey is, sometimes we overthink, we even create situations and problems that do not even exist in or life and feel stressed about it. Moreover, once these negative thoughts start playing in our mind, it keeps adding things up. The reason behind this overthinking could be you might have not the book ‘The subtle way of not giving a fuck’, kidding. What I have interpreted from my experience is, when our sleeping pattern gets disturbed, this situation of overthinking arises. For example, when you feel sleepy and you don’t sleep at a proper time maybe because you were working or binge-watching some series, our sleep gets disturbed. Then when we actually want to sleep later we can’t sleep since our sleep has been disturbed. Our brain keeps on working continuously and night is the only time when environmental stressors like noise, heat, etc. are absent. That one negative thought cross in our mind, we keep on adding other negative thoughts in our mind, and that leads us to stress. Same way for the next couple of weeks we keep on thinking about the situation, which didn’t even exist before you, started overthinking.

What one could do is, make sure they are getting enough sleep, neither more neither less. The sleeping pattern should not be disturbed because it does create lots of stress, also make sure if you are using your phone or working during night-time, you have set a timer, which could remind you about your sleeping schedule. In this way, you can actually use technology for preventing stressful situations in your life.
