Every coin has two sides. As we humankind is developing and technology is updating it have a huge effect on the environment. We did take some measures in order to make our products environment-friendly. However, almost everything we use on a daily basis has an effect on our environment in a bad way. I am not only pointing out of using plastic bags or the pollution created by vehicles. We go beyond that too. Even though after schemes such as swatch Bharat Abhiyan, how many of us have actually stopped using polythene bags or stay true to our vow to never throw stuff on roads.

In this blog, I am going to specifically talk about how we as a tourist harm environment in the worst way possible. I take an example of Ladakh, it was an isolated place and after the movie release 3 idiots, there was a massive increase in the tourism of this place. Now, this small place has a huge number of tourist coming from all around the world. There is a problem of water and bike riders creates pollution in Ladakh, which is very dangerous in the long run. Sure the government and locals are making money due to the increasing rate of tourism. But is it really profitable in the long run? I don’t really think so, after some decades the place would be destroyed since it is overly populated now.

It is not only about Ladakh but also all other such places. Due to some irresponsible tourist, the beaches are getting dirtier and dirtier. Take an example Juhu, when we visit Juhu beach we don’t even like to step foot in the water. This also makes me think that how our festivals also are responsible for damaging environmental conditions. If you go after the Ganesha Chaturthi on beaches (especially Juhu) you could literally see how much damage we are doing to our water bodies. Not only has that but also sound pollution and air pollution majorly increased during or after the festivals. Even when we have something to celebrate, like there is a marriage even or a child’s first birthday, we burn crackers without giving a second thought regarding the environment.

So what we could do? Firstly, we have to realize our responsibility as not only tourist but also the citizen of the place we are residing in. The government could actually ban diesel on places like Ladakh and also introduce reservation seats, for example approximately 1, 50000 tourists visit Ladakh every year, what government could do is allow only 50-60 thousand tourists per year and the reservation of seats would be on first come first places. This would not only make it less overcrowded but also will damage control the environment on a large extent. Festivals could also be celebrated as environmentally friendly. All we need to do is change our lad back attitude towards the environment. We not only need to think what is profitable for us right now but also what is good for us in long run and hence we need to retrain our self so the beauty of nature what we are enjoying today can also be enjoyed by our future generation.
