Flat Earth, Round Earth.
A dilemma that may confuse the best of us.
But it wasn't always the case. For many generations, most of us grew up believing that the Earth is a spherical ball of life and being; something taught to us by our parents, teachers and the world in general. But have you ever wondered what if that wasn't the case?
The Flat Earth Society claims otherwise. Yes, they believe that the Earth is indeed a flat surface. They are a group, actively promoting this movement worldwide. Though unconventional in belief, it is a theory worth looking into and understanding. The society strives to provide food for thought-provoked free thinkers and Zeteticists ("Zetetic", an obscure English word coming from Greek through Latin, a word for Inquirer or skeptic).
The fundamental concepts of this theory are:
1) The Earth is in a form of a planar disk, much like a frisbee, with the North pole at the center and Antarctica as an "Ice wall" lining the perimeter around the edge.
2) The sun moves in circles around the North pole, all the while confining it's light to a limited area, much like a spotlight upon the Earth. This further explains how the apparent rising and setting of the Sun, is an effect of perspective vision.
3) The Earth is not a planet as it sits at the center of our solar system, above which the planets and the Sun revolve.
4) Gravity is due to the constant acceleration of the Earth (the whole plane of the Earth) in an upwards direction and this constant acceleration causes the feeling of gravity, as we are forever pushed back onto the plane.
5) Pictures and videos on the internet are not to be taken as reference as they can be easily manipulated and edited with various tools. Also, the space agencies of the world may be involved in a conspiracy faking space travel and exploration, started during the Cold war's 'Space race'.
6) The burden of proof falls on the Round Earth theory as everything we perceive on a daily basis, tells us that the Earth is flat; going by instinct and empirical evidence of how flat the Earth looks, no matter how far we travel or how high up in the sky we go.
7) Occam's razor tells us that the explanation that makes the least number of assumptions is the simplest explanation.
So, what is the simplest explanation? The flat surface that we tread across every day is actually a massive sphere that spins through space at thousands of miles an hour - despite anybody ever feeling this centripetal acceleration. That it is also in perpetual revolution around a giant fireball that is, in fact, stationary and our eyes are deceiving us with illusions.
Or, is the simplest explanation; that the Earth is indeed stationary as a plane, with the Sun and Moon revolving around it just as we have observed?
This goes beyond just belief, as understanding these concepts would need thorough research in areas of both science and philosophy. The Flat Earth Society states that they are neither officially nor unofficially connected to any religion, in spite of many religions having proposed a flat earth model for centuries.
Go ahead, tingle your inner curiosity and figure out whether you live on a sphere or a plane.
