Have you been thinking about getting a tattoo? Maybe you’ve had the idea at the back of your mind for a while now, or you’re just seeing tattoo designs on your social media accounts that are giving you serious inspiration. Maybe you want to honor someone in your life, or you’re an appreciator of art and want to have a piece of art on your body.

Getting a tattoo done is an exciting prospect but there are lot of factors attached to it that need to be kept in mind.

1-It doesn’t have to be meaningful

Yes, a lot of people like to get a tattoo to commemorate someone or something, or even get a matching tattoo with a loved one. However, if you want to get one just because you think it’s pretty or looks cool, go for it But remember, think it through first – you’re gonna have to live with it for the rest of your life.

2-Consult your tattoo artist about the design

Yes, you should put a lot of thought into it yourself since no one knows what you want better than you. But also ask your tattoo artist’s opinion – they have experience and know what will look good, what works and what doesn’t.

3-Do not bring a horde of people with you

Okay, so you might be nervous and want a support team there to calm you down, but remember that all those people can be distracting to the artist. Bring one person if you have to, or just go with listening to relaxing music or focusing on your breathing.

4-Don’t consume alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment

Alcohol and tattoos are a bad mix not only for the fact it clouds your judgment, but it can affect you physically as well; it can thin your blood or even mess up the healing process.

5-Be careful with which medicine you take before getting your tattoo

Some people take Advil and that helps with discomfort, but just like alcohol, aspirin may thin your blood and mess up the healing process. Consult with a doctor or your tattoo artist beforehand if you want to take medicine
