Famous for his role as JOKER in The Dark Knight (2008), second installment of Batman series, Heath Ledger is one of the few actors who died at a young age (28 years).

For him, the role of Joker was the most challenging and his favourite too. Not only him, but people also loved the Joker. The whole credit goes to Heath Ledger for making us love his character.

Till now, we can't get over with Joker whenever we watch The Dark Knight. Most of you have already binge watched The Dark Knight. If not, then I must suggest you to watch it.

There were many stories or facts about Heath which were unknown to the people. Let's grab our eyes on some of them. Here is a list of 5 things that you don't know about Heath Ledger A.K.A Joker.

1. He died few months before the release of The Dark Knight

The news came with a sudden shock that Heath Ledger is no more. On 22nd January, 2008 he died due to accidental intoxication of prescribed drugs. This casted a shadow on the promotions of The Dark Knight. Everyone on the set even Christian Bale( Batman ) praised Ledger's performance. He was quoted saying, "Heath gave his 100% into this role to look better on the screen. He tried many ways to penetrate completely into this role."

He won a posthumous Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Tha Dark Knight. He also won the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor for The Dark Knight.

2. He locked himself in a Hotel Room

During the filming of Dark Knight, to get into his role, Heath locked himself in his hotel room for 43 days. He wanted to feel isolated and alone with his thoughts to perfect the lunatic Joker. He was completely into this role as he prepared himself with sheer determination.

In his isolation, he often tried different voices to suit Joker's character. With that voice, we also experienced the iconic laugh.

Even his family members agreed that Heath tried many ways to immerse into the characters. His father was quoted saying 'This was typical of him on any movie.' But Joker was just a whole new level.

No other actor would have given so much to this role if it would not be Heath Ledger.

3. He played a major role in the Joker make-up

It was Heath who made certain modifications as to how the make-up of the Joker is going to be. The man behind Joker's make-up is John Caglione Jr. He was nominated for the Oscars for Best Make-Up.

He originally created different styles to make Joker's look convincing. But to create an impact on this role, Ledger helped him in doing the make-up. It seemed as if he was wearing the make-up for days.

To make it more authentic, Heath made exaggerated 'clown' faces instead of keeping it still. He made wide expressions including scrunching the face very small.

The wrinkles and the contours were natural on his face as he produced them to make the make-up uneven & dishevelled.

4. He gave us some of the iconic dialogues

While we are appreciating the fact that Heath Ledger gave us a character to remember, it is also important to acknowledge that he gave us some of the iconic dialogues too.

His character Joker was very much good at the dialogue delivery part. All credit goes to Heath.

If we talk about the dialogues then the foremost must be "Why so serious!". Some of his other dialogues are-

  • If you are good at something, never do it for free

  • Did your balls drop off!

  • Smile because it confuses people. Smile because it's easier than explaining what is killing you inside.

  • As you know Madness is like gravity.... all it takes is a little push.

  • They laugh at me because I am different. I laugh at them because they are all the same.

These dialogues are still remembered when we see them on social media or printed on the tshirts of people. It is clearly an indication that Heath has left us his legacy which cannot be overtaken by anyone.

5. He gave a tribute to his daughter in The Dark Knight

Ledger had a daughter Matilda, who was 2 years old when he died. She was an infant at that time. To show love for his daughter, Heath gave a little tribute to her.

It was in the scene when he was disguised as a nurse in the hospital where Harvey Dent was admitted. He infiltrated the whole hospital and showed some badass level.

His costume of nurse had a name written above the 'Dent' political sticker which was spelled as 'Matilda'. Yes. This is his daughter's name.

We cannot forget this action of love. Because of this and other things, it is very difficult to forget him and his character The Joker.

RIP HEATH LEDGER!
