Whenever we watch a movie, we give the credits to the stars acting in it. It is true that they give their best performances but it is the Director who is the backbone behind any film. To direct a story into a movie is all done by the director which is one of the most difficult tasks.

According to me, these are the best 5 directors whose movies have been liked by not only us but also the critics.

1. ANURAG KASHYAP

One of the most known faces in Bollywood industry, Kashyap is a writer, producer and director who has been working since 2004. He has earned himself the tag of Best Director many times.

His debut film was Black Friday (2004). It got a mixed response from audience but the critics liked it. Despite of the controversies which aroused at that time, this film won an Award. Some of his other films which got people's attention were DevD, Gulaal, That Girl In Yellow Boots, Gangs of Wasseypur, Bombay Talkies and Manmarziyaan.

But the most favourite movie out of all was Gangs of Wasseypur(2012). It had a special fan base. People loved this movie. It was full of action, drama and love (not to forget the level of abusive language it contained). It had two parts which were released consecutively.

He had also directed some episodes of some of the famous web series like Sacred Games and Lust Stories. He has also won many Filmfare Awards and a National Award for Best Director.

2. REEMA KAGTI

Her work has been critically acclaimed as we cannot forget her movies. Reema Kagti is an Indian writer, producer and director who have given us many films which were great box office hits.

She debuted with a critically acclaimed film Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd. (2007). This movie was a very light hearted and beautiful film. From here she went ahead and made Talaash (2012) and Gold(2018). She directed these movies along with its scriptwriting.

But she is also one of the best writers. She has written for many movies such as Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Bombay Talkies, Dil Dhadakne Do, Gully Boy.

Her movies have done a great business at box-office and have also won many awards. She has won five awards for Best Story and Screenplay for Zindagi na Milegi Dobara.

Apart from movies, she also has the success of web series in her hands. She was the writer for Amazon Prime's Made In Heaven. This series did a good business as people loved it.

3. SRIRAM RAGHAVAN

This man deserves all the appreciation as he has directed some of the best movies which can never be missed. Both a writer and director, Raghavan has specialised in the genre of crime and thriller mostly.

His debut film was Ek Hasina Thi (2004) which was a mystery thriller. It was when people noticed this man. Then he came up with Johnny Gaddaar which was an average film. His other films are Agent Vinod, Badlapur and Andhadhun.

We all remember Badlapur, right! It was a box-office hit and we saw Varun Dhawan in a totally different genre. Then in 2018 we had Andhadhun which is one of the best movies of Bollywood till date.

This movie alone bagged him many awards including Best Film(critics), Best Director and Best Screenplay.

4. MEGHNA GULZAR

Daughter of famous poet Gulzar, Meghna Gulzar is an Indian writer, director and producer. She made her debut film Filhaal in 2002. Before this, she has worked as an assistant director with her father.

Her second movie Just Married came in 2007 which got a mixed response. She got famous in the year 2015 when her film Talvaar came. This movie was based on the Noida double murder case. This movie was nominated for Best Director at FilmFare Awards.

In 2018, she gave us one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all times. Yes, I am talking about Raazi. This film won the award for Best Film and Best Director at 64th Filmfare Awards.

Her next directional project will be Chhapaak starring Deepika Padukone & Vikrant Massey.

5. SHOOJIT SIRCAR

This director cum producer is a well known name in Bollywood. Most of the actors and actresses wanted to work with him after his 2012 hit film Vicky Donor. This movie won the National Award in Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment category.

He directed Madras Cafe in 2013 starring John Abrahm. Then he came with Piku in 2015. This was a simple and great movie starring Deepika Padukone. He won the award for Best Director and Best Film for Piku.

He was the writer and producer of Pink which surprisingly earned him a National Award for Best Film on Social Issues. He really deserved an award for such an amazing storywriting. In 2018, he directed October starring Varun Dhawan.

His next projects are scheduled to be released in 2020 which include Sardar Udham Singh and Gulabo Sitabo.
